A140 Fuel Gauge

Hello all,
I am just in the process of buying a 1999 a140 Classic semi auto. I have been told that the fuel gauge does not work and is constantly at zero.

Is this a known fault and is their an easy fix...if not what is the worst case scenario.

It will be either the cluster or the tank sender. 9/10 its the sender.

What sort of cost involved in a new sender. I could prob fit myself... I assume tank off etc etc

Given that the sensor is reading nothing, is there any mileage in checking the continuity of the wiring while the sensor is out?

yer good point, and is there anyway I can test the sender when it is off??

Also is it a tank off job or is it accessible through the rear seats as is in many other cars??
