Hi Guys

My E500 roof has developed an issue, the roof will retract no problem as intended, however it wont go back up. I pull the lever and nothing. Battery is fine, judging by the the way the roof goes down it has a healthy pump etc etc.
Has anyone else had this issue, could it be a solenoid sticking or a microswitch failure. I am grasping at straws so any input would be appreciated.

Check the owners manual for the method of getting the roof back in place manually .
Probably a faulty microswitch ?? An icarsoft code reader should give some clues .
When this happened to my CLK it was a broken wire to the boot microswitch

Thanks, I have the roof back in position following the slow task of the manual procedure.
I will look into getting an iCarsoft code reader as my basic OBD2 reader only looks at engine and gearbox fault codes.
I will feed back once I have more detail, thanks for the advice 👍

Good luck buddy . The icarsoft MB2 is probably the oldest model you would want to go for ??
They are often for sale in the forums as people upgrade to newer multi car models .
Be aware that there are some copies around on the net . I forget who the authorised suppliers are on eBay
I’m sure someone will point you in the right direction .

There is quite a lot of roof problem diagnosis on YouTube if you have time .

Looks good , they have certainly sold enough stock at 23000+ reviews

update and solution.

there is a microswitch on the top of the windscreen where the roof drops and locks in, one on each side. the drivers side switch had stayed closed and as such the car assumed the roof was up and therefore wouldnt initiate the close sequence. so a gentle tap, a blast with an air duster and it seems to be ok, the odd time the rood stays down, i just bash the sun visor gently and the microswitch frees up and hey presto. My indy did the microswitch trial and error and located the culprit, the replacement unit is the entire lock mechanism with switch inside it, so will replace when it become a regular issue.
