A35 - Noisy Continental tyres

The S3 and Golf R are silent compared to the A35 on conti 6's. It's louder than the vans we run. It's not acceptable to me.
That aside, you really aren't qualified to comment. Different tyres. Different cars. Plus you know little about db.

All meant in good humour naturally.

...also to take into account is the chassis, they way in which the components are connected to the bodywork etc. Sounds can transmit into the cabin. Imagine if it was a racecar with no sound deadening, you'd be deaf within 5 miles!!!:D:D
Ever heard a slick shod race car fly past you on the circuit, even F1 cars, their tyres are hugely noisy!! ;)

I am Thankfully some way away from requiring new tyres, having just watched a review of the new Goodyear eagle F1 asymmetric 5s I will most likely be having a set. They seemed to beat the rest in all areas.

I have no idea what point you are trying to make.

I have a set of half price Continental 6's when you're ready.

I guess what I'm trying to say is get out there and enjoy thrashing that monster powerful 2 litre. I thoroughly recommend the Nordschleifer for a car of this ilk.
Tyres will be shot in 4 or 5 laps!! ;)
Who cares how loud the tyres are! ;) as long as they don't drown out the sound of the exhaust!! :)

Noisy premium tyres... just take them off and purchase some non noisy ones.

They drown out the sound of the exhaust on some surfaces.

I've changed to Dunlops- the quietest made and it's still too loud on some surfaces.
According to my local dealer it's normal for the A35's and it seems that everyone on here thinks it's acceptable.

So that's it, I have to get used to it.

Roll on April 2022.

Continentals get louder with wear.

I've been watching this thread quietly, now I'm gonna comment.
Guys, you have performance cars, they have wide ultra low profile tyres, they all handle brilliantly with the tyres that are fitted. And Mercedes invested a shed load of money in the design including the optimal tyres for your cars.
Is is that important that one set are 3db louder or quieter than the next? ;)
I feel qualifed to comment given that my car runs 235/40 & 255/35 Continental ContiSport 5s. Theay are loud - they have a large contact patch, that's the way it is.
Could I respectfully suggest that the amazing stereos that come with these new cars is turned up a wee bit in order to drown out the extra noise from the tyres. Alternatively fit skinny 155 70 16s to your cars.

I do agree :) There are substantially quieter performance tyres out there though, something like 30% quieter which is really noticeable. Like the Goodyear Assymetric 3s. It's a big difference, even if it's never going to be an old S class ;)

Conti's were 73db. The Dunlops I've fitted are 68db.- lowest made for this car.

It's still unacceptably noisy even for a hot hatch.

One of weirdest complaints of a performance car I've ear read on a car forum :p
Roll on April 2020 indeed.
Maybe it's your ears, have you ever had to tell ants to pipe down when they're making love?

Is that it?
Nothing constructive to add?

How about you go and finish your homework?

I have found accross 3 different mercredes that either Goodyear as3/4 or Dunlop maxx rt are both very significantly quieter and more comfortable than either pirrelis. pilots or contis with no discerable difference in grip. So much so that I now wont run on anything else (Dunlop on the SL and Goodyears on the cls55)

Thanks for your input.

The other day there was a CLS (not sure which model but a diesel) ahead of me with very wide tyres & lowish profile - I had the roof down and there was a lot of noise coming from his tyres (doing 50mph & a safe distance behind) - never heard such a noisy car (tyres) - my wife even asked what the noise was.

My tyres 255/35 & 285/30 (P Zeros) and I've never considered the noise a problem but, their noise was drowned out by the other car.

I was hoping to see what tyres the CLS had so that could make sure I never buy them.

Tyre noise rating typically ranges from 68db to 71db.

Choose a tyre with low noise rating.......

Well... I'm not deaf, but I can't tell the difference between 68 and 72 dB. I have even less interest in finding out.
Maybe it was all that open zorsts on my Ducatis and loud rock music that did my frequency hearing in!
Sadly I could still hear the frequency of my ex wife's voice!!:eek::D
I have a performance car, alot about it is loud!! ;)
