Hi. I've had an A45s for a few months from new and the spoiler makes a noticeable noise when the boot is closed and when going over big bumps. Easy answer is to be more gentle but it really sounds like a defect. MB Dealer said they all sound like this and the A45s I took round the MB World track seemed to make the same noise when the boot was shut. I can't find any discussion online about this so wondering if it's just me being a bit intolerant. Nice to be on the forum, by the way so hello to you all.

Is it possible it just wants tightening.
Or have you tried that?

What does the noise sound like and are you sure it’s the spoiler?

Does it sound like a jet fighter?
It's an AMG it has a beefed up muscular sound.
If front spoiler makes a defect sound MB should have noticed this and remedy the problem but then MB is no longer a premium manufacturer.
Those years are long gone when das stern on the bonnet ment something to it's owner.

Thanks for the replies. Apologies for the dirty car in these videos in advance. There's a rattlly-thud when closing the boot that can also be heard when driving and going over bumpy roads. Annoying more than critical but is this normal?

They all do that Sir....

I agree its pretty poor quality, such a shame on a cool little car.

Has anyone worked on a way to reduce or eliminate the noise? I'm really surprised I seem to be the first person to mention it as I can't find anyone else commenting on it happening (and being a problem). As @Bobby Dazzler said, it's definitely irritating but bonkers it might be normal.

It probably needs some internal re-enforcement. Is there anything aftermarket available as an upgrade?

My A35 makes that noise on closing the boot but I haven't noticed it when going over bumps. Having driven a number of other A35s and 45s I would agree that it is normal. As for it being 'poor build quality' i'm not so sure. I would imagine the spoiler has to have a certain amount of flex in it.

Have you though about removing the spolier and fitting a spoiler? 😄

I would say that the twang and vibration when you shut it might be normal, bearing in mind the size and thickness.....but the vibration/noise when driving is not. Have you checked that all the mountings are tight....if so how about adding rubber washers to the fixing to damp out the NVH. Or even adding a bead of Sikoflex between the hatch and the spoiler to make it more solid.

Give the Spoiler a "Waggle" with the Boot closed, to me the second Video shows the Spoiler "Jumping Up" when you close the Boot! 🫣

If it's loose then that will be the Noise when you are traveling!

Question: Does the A45 not have the "Close Boot Button"? 🤔 The Button uses an Actuator to Softly close the Boot!

Hatchbacks have never had the electronic tailgate function as far as I'm aware.

There is one thats always parked on the road down from me , I might be going that way soon , I will give it a wiggle on my way past....and I might check the spoiler at the same time
Hope you know the owner cause I would hate for you to be chased down the road...
