Hi all

Just a quick question as I need to source a new rear strut for my 53 plate cl55 kompressor

I've done a quick search and found arnott industries which do them but not sure if they ship to the uk...

Does anyone know if there is any another place where I can buy from as I need it for the mot next week. The current one has leaked out oil.

The only other alternative I have is the steeler which is c.£1400 inc vat

The part number I've been given is A 220 320 17 38. It's the passenger side rear

Any guidance would be very much appreciated

Thanks

Mitz

There is a German stockist of Arnott Industries remanufactured struts. They are exchange core items so you will pay a deposit and need to return the old part. Less hassle that importing direct from USA.

Vilus - Thanks that's great I've sent them a message and will ring the German distributor tomorrow to check the fitment as the part number doesn't match mine..but the unit does look identical and so does the description.

AMGeed - thanks for the link ..I wish I could get them at this price but mine is the hydraulic version and not the air - shame !!

Thanks again for your help

The US Arnott site lists an AMG variant of the struts. If the German company can't supply the correct one you can speak to them in the USA. I read on the other forum that they recently supplied one direct to the UK, but wanted $1000 deposit as they experienced problems with European customers not returning the exchange part for reconditioning due to shipping costs. You may have to pay VAT etc as well if you buy from the US.

Hi guys

Spoke to Arnott and they won't ship out to the UK for customs reasons !!! the only way they will do it is if you send them yours first ans then they refurb and send back..which is a two week wait - 5 days to do the work plus shipping there and back:(

Spoke to HID Direct who can get the air suspension stuff and were really helpful but can't get the hydrualic strut which I need

The German site 'Air Suspension' haven't returned my emails yet and I can't get through on the phone...

So up a certain creek without a paddle

Any suggestions very welcome !!!

Thanks all

Thanks John F

I'll give them a call in the morning and let you all know

Incidently, I got a message back from Air suspension in Germany asking for my chassis number to match up and give me the right link to the part, so again I'll keep you all posted

thanks again for the responses

Any update??

Hi All,

Firstly apologies for the late update, just got the new strut fitted and wanted to ensure it fitted properly and worked as it should...it does so RESULT !!

I managed to get it shipped from sunny California from a company called Buyautoparts.com and they were really helpful, they managed to cross reference my part and confirmed that the part was the right one. They shipped it last Tueday and it was in East midlands airport (UPS depot) on Friday Morning ?!?!?!

The strut in question was infact an Arnott item:dk:

The cost was $650 plus a surcharge of $300 for my old unit refundable on return, a result against £1400 inc vat that I'd quoted by the dealers:eek:

I did have to pay and additional £128 to UPS for Customs and Excise but overall a real big saving !!

Anyway, the car is now MOT'd and working as it should. I knew about the suspension costs when I bought the car, but now my cold sweats have stopped, this must surely be one of the best cars out there... well it is for me, especially when we can find quality cheaper alternatives.

Hope this info helps and thanks everyone for the speedy repsonses and suggestions -cracking forum :thumb:
