Hiya people,

I just had my 2005 plate W169 A Class AC Re-gassed but I don't seem to get any cold air ... why is that?

Do I have to somehow activate the AC on the car?
What is the required amount for my car in grams?

Thanks

As above who regassed it for you.

Also sometimes ifthe gas run too low it logs a fault and shuts the system down and needs to go on star machine to reset the system.

I got it done in a local garage.

I had barely any gas there for some time and I think your right that I will need to plug in a computer to enable it but does it have to be a star computer?
After regassing, I had a lot of hot air coming out even though the temperature gauge was on the lowest but after like 15 mins I had normal cold air come in but the ac not kicking in.

I had 770g put in ... is that right?

Some generic machines maybe able to reset it. Just depends on. What machine it is.

Have you not got a local merc specialist you could pop it along to.

I plugged in a general computer yesterday and it did not show any AC Faults.

Instead it showed me:

P1860 - The right rear wheel rpm signal sent from the traction system via the CAN bus is implausible.

P1861 - The left rear wheel rpm signal sent from the traction system via the CAN bus is implausible.

I don't even know what they are either.

Label in the engine bay gives the figurs of gas etc for the AC system.

The fault codes you got are totally unrelated to the a/c they are the sensors that are used for traction control and abs.

Can you read actual values with the obd reader.

As it really needs the actual values of the a/c checking to see what is going on with it.

Best thing to do is get it hooked up to a star machine as some obd readers dont always pick up certain fault codes.

yeah it can ... im going to have to go to the garage again but what values do I look out for?

Are they a merc specialist as it would be better to get someone who knows these cars to look at it to be honest.

they are not t be honest ... just an independent garage.
what do I look out for?

Thanks

For aircon I always recommend going to a good local air conditioning specialist. The rest are pretty hit or miss. Many air conditioning systems fail because they have lost refrigerant-- there is usually a reason for this a leak/s First thing is to find the source of this leak other wise you will just lose all that expensive gas again in a very short space of time. One of the commonest leaks is found in the condenser [ radiator/heat exchanger] at the front of the car beside /in front/below the radiator They are subject to damage from road debris and the slightest pinhole means the refrigerant will eventually all leak out. This needs sorting first. The professional shops have have the necessary leak detection techniques and the experience to know where the leak is likely to be situated.

All the garages are saying for some reason the compressor is not kicking in.

I may have to change my compressor.
the readings go from 0 to 40 and back to 0 for a while and then shoots to 64 and straight to 0 and stays like that ... very temperamental

From what I understand if there isn't enough gas in the system the ECU will switch the condenser off to protect it, almost like a limp mode.
I had my condenser changed this week and then gassed for £248.

What readings are these that go 0 to 40 etc.

Psi on the low pressure side maybe?
