AC not working

A 2008 model will be a 204
I assumed so. Thanks 👍

The OP's vehicle is listed and supported on icarsoft I just checked on my (now redundant) version

All he /she has to do is select the correct model from the list... 👍

nope
tried both options and it goes to diesel or gasoline

may be the car was manuf in 2007 and bought in 2008?
It's gasoline!!!

Gasoline is the American term for Petrol!

Your vehicle is listed. I checked on my own icarsoft. 🙄

Thanks, I clicked on gasoline and it took me to the fault codes for ac
'Refrigerant pressure low'
Erased the code and still shows up as fault code
So basically can't erase the code!!

Yep. Its a 204. Gasoline is a petrol model.

So tried several times but can't erase the code
which reads as refrigerant pressure is low
Although the kwik fit guy mentioned that it was full
So hopefully sensors?? costa

I suggest you look at the price of Halfords 'gas' again . £60 plus £10 deposit for the old stuff , closer to £100 for the new stuff.

Glad I stocked up a few summers ago.
My cars use either R12 or R134a ; the prices were for R134a ; and I did specify in my post that it was R134a I was talking about as R12 is no longer available , but there are substitutes available for R12 cars like W123 , W126 and so on .

R134a is the best substitute for R12. All the others are sketchy

So here I stand, leant a lot guys!! Thanks

rechecked info and says refrigerant pressure 0! So the KF guy is right?
Despite a full tank, and no obvious leaks it shows up as empty?
So hopefully sensor kaput? Any other differentials? and costs
Gonna take it midweek to a specialist

ps
while I have this software, could I look for other codes?
One showed something like ' AIR insufficient flow bank1' P0491

I tried scrolling down but there is a large volume of info, from manual to automatic
Anyway I could just look for faults? or faulty codes

The best advice is the advice you have already been given, several times. Take it to a specialist as arranged.
.
As for scanning for other codes, that is what icarsoft is designed for but it is fair to say that your knowledge is limited with regard to cars?

A code in itself is often not definitive. It takes a great deal of experience to properly interpret a fault code. Often you need to know what other system or systems may be connected to the one showing the fault code as the actual fault may lie in another part of the system.

Also, whilst icarsoft can be helpful it isn't a professional level diagnostic system.

Mercedes dealers and specialists use a Mercedes supplied (at great cost) and supported system that is only supplied to registered dealers and garages.

Maybe you should ask for a good MB independent specialist near you?
Mine recently traced leak, fitted new condenser and refilled £400 all done (CLK)

Also look on wowcher for air con recharge deals - ATS often have deals on there.
They test for leaks, and if leaking they won’t use voucher, you can go and fix leak, and return for the refill (if you have capability to fix leak) used this when they saw hole on a-class condenser which I swapped out - returned for the refill 👍

You can’t erase the code, because you still have low pressure.
The Kwik fit chappie did say that despite the tank being full of refrigerant and no obvious leaks, it still showed up as 'empty'
on the codes
So, that's why he feels that the sensors have gone?

If the aircon machine says the pressure is correct, but you car says it’s empty, it does point to a faulty sensor.
The system will need draining again to replace the sensor.

Groan
meaning it would cost me to drain it and then refill it
Could I ask Kwif fit to drain it? They are the ones that filled it up?

Better off at an MB indie, they can scan and actually pinpoint fault, fix it and refill.
Where are you based? If in West London - go to Wayne Gates in Harrow  always great knowledge, service and pricing,

Does it have to be an indi MB specialist?
Or any ac specialist would do ?
Next week I am up at Lincolshire and the closest place would be Boston
Any recommendations, in that region?

I got a recall on my air bags with the real MB on Thursday. When asked if they could have a look at the ac, pat came the reply, 120 quid for diagnostics !

Oh , I DID check Halfords website before posting ; they only list R134a on there and it is currently £62 , including deposit , so if you return an empty , you will pay £52 , or less if you have a trade card .
