AC not working

It could be a significant leak; it could just be that the slow seepage out has just passed the point where the system won't play any more when asked. A simple yes/no pressure check should show which it is.

I don't disagree and suggested that he check the pressures using a proper gauge and not the traffic light gauge that was put on his suction line. That's not a pressure check. See post #12

Last time I bought a bottle of R134a it was about half that price , after deducting the deposit from my old bottle ( £10 ) and my Halfords Trade Card discount .

I find most garages you'd be as well handing your car over to trained monkeys , so many bodge jobs have I seen down the years . The only place I would 100% trust with my cars are Merparts , otherwise I DIY so I know the job has been done right .
I suggest you look at the price of Halfords 'gas' again . £60 plus £10 deposit for the old stuff , closer to £100 for the new stuff.

Glad I stocked up a few summers ago.

An update
So took the car to Kwif Fit
Met a friendly chap, who tried to refill it . Deal was that if it doesn't get refilled, then no need to pay! Otherwise 60 quid
So he did try, vacuum and then refilled, which he said was fine. Although the system didn't seem to register it? If this makes sense
According to him, it's the sensor that's gone kaput. He thinks the compressor is fine

So not I got a tank full of refrigerant but the ac ain't working. Next stop would be a ac technician

Ps- any ideas on how much would it cost to redo the sensor?

Some models, particularly with automatic climate control require a reset that can be done from the climate control panel to get everything going after the A/C drops below a certain pressure. I've never owned a C class but I had to do this on W220 S55.

Thanks
He did say he

Thanks, the technician also spoke about being unable to reset something. Then he said 'probably the sensors' gone
Could I try and reset this ? On a Kompressor 180 Merc C class 2008 model?

I don't know the procedure on a C class but there might be something posted on Youtube or a model specific sub forum on a site like MBWorld or Benzworld. I would look there.

Which is where you were advised, many posts ago to take the car.
The A/C specialist would have charged the same as Kwik Fit for a recharge, but would most likely have diagnosed the issue before filling the system.
You are going to end up paying double for the regas as any A/C specialist will probably evacuate the system before diagnosing the issue, fixing it, then refilling it again.

I totally agree with going to a specialist in the first case, I would point out though that if they evacuate the system now they won't or shouldn't charge for the gas that they evacuate because it can be reused , just the labour cost.

Are we talking about a pressure sensor here, one that only allows the compressor to engage when refrigerant is sufficiently up to pressure?

Don't know
There's a full tank but it doesn't show up
according to kf

This is where you really need to have a set of proper gauges in order to know or explain what the dickens is going on.

Found this software on line
Could it help? or is it compatible with me car?
It could help with other stuff too? like diagnostics ?

No you can't.... we at least not before putting through a process to separate out the oil...a specialist job. The AC guy will just send all the old gas back for recycling but will have to buy it back as new refrigerant.

To be fair that's what the kwikfit machine does....empty, pressure test, vacuum test, refill. Its won't refill if it fails either of the preesure/vacuum tests. An AC specialist can't tell much without gassing it up first....all the pressure sensors will shut the system down if there is too much or too little gas. Any fault codes stored could be fake if its been completely emptied.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one, a proper recovery/management unit will separate the oil . I have had it done by a mobile a/c specialist and he explained the process in detail. I don't want to get into a debate so , as I said, I'll agree to disagree.

Will take it to an AC specialist during the week. In the meanwhile, managed to borrow a car isoft MB V2.O
Will connect it tomorrow
Wonder if it's compatible for my Mercedes C class, Kompressor 180 petrol 2008 model
Just did a cursory search on the screen it does flag up diagnostics, then Mercedes and under the version list, V 12.60 AND v 12.50
Couldn't find my car in any of the 69 models ..can I still connect it to the car and check?

Your car is not unusual, I am sure it is in the database, it is just a question of searching for the correct model then subtype (i.e fuel, engine type etc)

Is it a W204 or W203?

My previous 2008 E Class (W211) is in the icarsoft database.

A 2008 model will be a 204
