With the warm weather, I adjusted the heating controls to the lowest 'blue' setting but it appears that the AC is operational as the vents are blowing in quite cool air! Does the AC kick-in by default at the cool setting? How do I check if the AC is running and how to turn it off? There are 3 square buttons in the middle one of which has 'EC' on it and a small LED red light turns on if you press this - what is this for as I don't have the benefit of an Owner's Manual?

When the EC lamp is on the air con is off.

Turn the controls down to the blue setting (lowest) and start the the engine. when the clutch on the compressor engages the engine speeds up, to compensate when the air con is turned on

TV,
Does that mean you have to press the EC button everytime when you don't want the AC to come on? This is similar to the SAAB I have - a nuisance as you have to presws 'Economy' button when you don't want the AC!

No,, just by turning up the temp controls will do it on the auto version. the EC does turn it off, most run the cars with it on to avoid misting of the windows

yes its best to leave the EC button alone and run the a/c 24/7.. yes it may use a little more fuel but not using the a/c can cause seals to dry out etc and cost a lot more in repairs than the fuel you use..
