Good evening to all.
What is acceptable oil consumption per 1000 miles?
How many times and how much oil you add in between services if you need to add at all?

How old is the car/engine? what is the size/arrangement/fuel? how many miles has the car done?

As asked what car is it ??

In my last 5-6 cars I never had any oil consumption and all were different
1. Ford Mondeo 1.8 sold hit with 77K miles no oil consumption
2. Renault Clio 1.2 sold it with 65K miles no oil consumption
3. Peugeot 406 Coupe 2.0l still have it with 65K miles as a holiday car in Cyprus less than 0.25l for over 20K miles when I was using it a lot now nothing between oil change
4. Seat Ibiza 1.2 sold it with 44K miles never needed any oil and all city driving
5. Porsche 911 997 never needed any oil even when I was doing silly speeds and was pushing the car to limits
6. Mercedes A160 (w169) nothing over 28.5k miles never needed to add a drop

In all of them I have a ritual before I go above any 3-3.5 k revs. Unless the water temp goes to normal and in the case of the Porsche and Peugeot the oil temperature moves up I take it easy. That allows the oil to circulate warm up and bit and do its job as it has been design to do so.... Also I always use good quality oils as the difference in cost is negligible when you take into consideration the potential drawbacks

Audi A6 2.4 V6 125kW; 53 plates; 71k miles. No leaks and no blue smoke.
I know those are famous oil eaters but was not expecting such hunger. 1l/1000miles. I also noticed that on long highway journeys its let's say normal maybe 80grams/1000miles but in local it's a bit too much. Does anybody has any reasonable explanation for such difference?

VAG Group says 850 miles per litre is okay. Their logic (apparently) is that with variable life servicing available and very attractive to fleet buyers, it might be two years and 20k miles between services so a higher level of oil consumption ensures you always have "fresh" oil in the sump.

I bought a Golf GTI and an EOS (with the same 2.0 turbo engine), both at the same time. The Golf drank like a docker on payday whereas the EOS uses no oil between services. In my experience, an A6 2.5V6 and a 2.0 Passat the diesels use hardly any oil but the petrol models seem to be thirstier.

I wouldn't worry too much if performance is okay and it obviously isn't leaking.

All the Audi's we have had have used oil up to 1 litre per 1000 miles, the A3 was the worst but I reckon our A6 and A8 were 600ml - 800ml per thou

Never had a moments trouble with any of them so a little drop of oil seems a small price to pay.

Could be worse, you could be running a Maxda RX8
