The rear wiper on my 02 32OCDI has been going out of sync recently. It would stop halfway through the wipe cycle and stick in the middle of the screen.

I could remedy this by physically pushing the wiper down to the start point, but now this doesen't do the trick and it was a nuisance..

I need to access the gubbins inside the tailgate to have a look to see if I can repair... I think something has perhaps worked loose and will need tightening up.

I see one screw on the pull handle section (interior) and 2 screws each side on the door closure limiters, but can't see any others.

The are a fair few (what look like) round plastic screw covers around the tailgate but they are hard to budge and I don't want to snap off any of these if I can help it.

Any help would be great.

Exactly the same happened to mine about a year ago. You need to gently prise out the plastic pins to get the trim off, they do just pull out if you are gentle.

Take care to pull out the washer jet from the spindle before unbolting the wiper blade. It is fragile and will snap off easily...

The problem will be caused through rust on the contact "track" inside the motor mechanism. As the shaft wears, it allows water inside the gear housing.

Remove it from the car, open the housing up carefully (I think there are metal tabs you have to bend) and there is a circular contact track which provides the self-park function. Clean the rust off the track with sandpaper, re-pack it with grease and it should be fine.

Many Thanks Ceejay.

I'll let you know how I get on and may even take a few pictures to post.

Regards

Paul.

I did just that and cleaned and re-lubricated everything that moved and then re-packed with grease before re-assembly.

For a thorough clean and lubrication, with the housing undone, connect and disconnect the power supply to stop the cogs etc at different intervals, so that each and every part and cog is accessible at all the different positions for cleaning and lubrication. ;)

Regretably, I didn't manage to take any pictures, but I'm sure either of us could explain "how to" in the future.

Thanks again for the help. Saved me booking in at MB and paying them to do it. ;)

Paul.
