Advice for fathers next car...

I'm taking him for a couple of test drives this afternoon. S320 cdi/ cl55/ s600 V12. At least with that little lot I can get a better idea of what he wants. Wish me luck.... :thumb:

Good luck.

Let us know how the test drives go.

Good luck.

Another nod for a 6pot 211. Cracking way to cover the miles. An S320cdi may be a tad slow, I'd say he'll want a S500.

I'm starting to lose the will to live....:wallbash: he doesn't like the s class, though he does like the cl, but would prefer it with 5 seats :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash: he didn't believe me when I told him they are nearly the same car. Two test drives tomorrow, then that's it! Lexus ls430 and range rover td6:doh:

He'll hate the Range Rover TD6. Hopeless slow, dangerously slow in fact. Glaciers move faster. Then when it corners it nearly topples over.

He should look at the BMW X5, VW Toureg if he needs/wants an SUV within his price range.

I think he is interested in the RR because of the history/prestige of the marque, generally speaking, he isn't a 4x4 man. I told him that if he wants a monster 4x4, then get the 5.0 tdv10 toureg. I think, deep down, he will go for another Lexus LSv8

When I was your father`s age I would have thrived on a W203 V6/V8 C class...something that looked innocent but when stirred could perform like a Savage.

Splitpin

Good cars the lexus V8's. Dare I recommend an Audi A6 4.2 Quattro or even a BMW 545i. Both are nice motors as well.

My dads opinion is that lexus are making the kind of cars, providing the customer service that Mercedes should be doing. Not too sure that I agree with him there, but he does have a point because they blatantly rip off the design of Mercedes. In my humble opinion, lexus are funny looking vehicles that always seem to have some strange quirk with every model they bring out.

Just a quick update- he has set his heart on an Audi A6 2.7 Tdi S-line, which he should be purchasing this weekend.
For future reference, somebody shoot me next time I put myself forward for the job of finding my Dad a new motor....

I have found Audi's to be soul-less. But I hope the A6 ticks all the right boxes for him!

Your father is still young. I think asking you to choose his next car was the equivalent of a pat on the head...son.

It's what I do for a living:thumb:
He is like one of those threadstarters that asks for advice, then procedes to argue against any advice given....:wallbash:

The Audi S line models look good but tend to have very hard suspension for British roads. If its automatic check he can live with the multitronic CVT transmission and auto-clutch = does not drive like a torque converter car. The early ones tended to be problematic and the auto-hydraulic clutch was redesigned. Some people love em but others not happy.

IIRC the front drive Audis were "multitronic" which is a CVT.

The quattro ones have a 6sp ZF automatic TC box which is very good. I sampled the S6 one and very quick shifting.

With the torque/power of the 2.7TDi V6, I do hope its a quattro although in the A6 there is a FWD version with the multitronic box.

Audis bore the hell out of me, can't see anything in them and I would not go there.

CLS500 (388 model) all the way or even better a CLS55 AMG:D

I'll be on the hunt for one soon;):D

Some truth in that, the LS400 was a good effort..

But, the design, the style, they just do not have the class of Merc and they never ever will.

Try the S6, nice enough motor, lovely engine if lacking power and torque IMHO. Nice sound mind. Rest of the car germanic and high tech but you are better with a real car, a Mercedes.

So you are getting rid of the M3 for the CLS55amg, gotta say, like your style:D

Steve, I'm sure they are lovely well built cars but they just don't do anything for me, I love the mercs, I drive my M3 more or less everyday and I have to admit I always miss being in the mercedes.

I'm going to get rid of both the m3 and the slk and find me a nice low milage cls55.
