Realize I'm a little late to this game, but I just bought a 12 year old, 1996 W124 E220, in India where they were manufacturered longer.

I've managed to source Chrome Climate Control Rings and instrument cluster rings after alot of searching. Now, I'm looking for advice from any pros on a Manual Transmission Shifter Surround - I realize American W124s were autos but I was hoping someone with a stick shift post '93 W124 had some advice for me.

Also, anyone source a set of OEM aluminium sport pedals?

Any other interior recommendations/ sure shot success changes?

Thanks guys

Hi

firstly, welcome :)

you should get the "offical MB-Club pedals" - do a search ;-) Approx £40 from a dealer.

i personally dont like the chrome rings mod. I do like the gear shift surround in chrome though (and something i want to do). I believe these are available on ebay but make sure its the correct type.

I also like the chrome door pin mod.

Subtle is the key i think with chrome add-ons. As with wood trim, too much can result in the car looking tacky. Same with chrome IMHO....

if you like it though, go for it! :)

Thanks for the welcome guy!

I've found a bunch of Shifter surrounds for Automatics on Ebay but not for the manuals. I'd bet that its a one size fits all for the post '93 Manual shifters but I'm hoping someone who's done this can confirm.

Agree with the excessive wood/ chrome thought process. I believe the chrome shifter, rings and door pins would result in the perfect balance of wood/ chrome for the W124.

I'm also looking at these pedals but will likely have to settle for just the accelerator, dead and foot brake pedal as the manufacturer is US based and will likely not stock a clutch/ smaller brake pedal :(

Howards link are the pedals i am refeering to - best to get from a dealer. Ensure you get the correct gas pedal type (there are two types). i cant remember whether you need to modify the new gas pedal for a 124.... but they definatly fit. I'm going to get some of these at some point, along with the chrome door pins.

i have an auto 124 so cant comment on the surround. Is the hole in the wood any different between a manual and auto? if not, then it will probably fit the same.... but i dont know.

Actually, I quite like the chrome heater rings, they are subtle enough to look standard and tidy up the lip of the wood quite nicely.

Mind you, I think the pedals look naff :D

Thanks for the link, but will the W202 model pedals fit the W124?

Any thoughts on the shifter surround?

Just so you know, the w202 parking brake pedal is from the w124, the brake pedal from the w123 and the gas pedal from the r129. There is no such thing as w202 pedals ;)

Pretty much all MB models use the same pedals/covers.

1) The AMG Pedals I've chosen - Note, they are available in Manual configuration, which is what the vendor Jerry will ship to me

2)The AMG illuminated door sills

3) Really like this gear knob but am not sure it'll fit on my Leather boot Manual Transmission

4)Ordered Chrome Door knobs and surrounds from Ebay

Any other suggestions?

hi again,

I like those pedals, although they need screwing on etc rather than the rubber push fit of the "official MB Club ones". Yes they fit basically all cars, but you may have to remove the rubber on the gas pedal and transfer to your car - i cant remember, but they will fit. sounds like you've got those AMG ones anyway. They look good!!

The AMG illuminated sills are superb! something i'd love to get.

No idea on the manual shift surround. I was scanning ebay yesterday and noticed that there isnt any surround for a manual car - the gaitor doesnt need one. Not sure whether a chrome surround would look out of place, but maybe an auto one could be made to fit/glued around it.

just to throw a spanner in the works........

are those pedal covers road legal in the UK?

I seem to remember (please correct me if I'm wrong) reading in one of the kit car mags that alloy pedals had to have some sort of raised rubber grip (like the dimples seen on the "club" pedals) to conform to UK regs.

I suspect that those will get you an MoT advisory at best or a fail if the tester is being strict and if they aren't street legal they may well void your insurance - worst case scenario, wet foot slips off smooth brake pedal and you hit something

yes there needs to be a set distance between each pedal. the OP is in India though so not sure if that rule applies there....

Yep, this is a 96 W124, one of the last few made in India. Even if there was a law, the country is so laid back, I'd get out of it in a jiffy ;)

Great kit - where's the link?

Loving the look of the AMG illuminated sills but where can I get some?

Chrome AC Rings are on. They look great on the car and wonders for a Grey interior.

On to my next MOD - Floor Matts. Any idea where I can a decent set online that preferably has Logo's?

In my desperation to find W124 Manual shifters, I just bought this one off Ebay. Not nearly as nice as the one posted earlier, but something's better than nothing.

Still trying to find black/ gret floor matts with the MB logo somewhere though

Im keeping aftermarket as a last resort. Nothing like the real thing, no?

i do agree in the main, but if they are nice aftermarket mats that look similar to original then they probably would be ok for me.

The gearknob above is aftermarket.....
