advice on my new w124 coupe

Original Evo II / E500 wheels of size 17 x 8.25 + 34 on 235/40R17 tyres works well. You only need to space out the front arch, which is done by putting a few (stainless or stiff rubber) washers behind the 2 x M6 bolts located at the bottom of the wing where it meets the A pilar. Can use these sized wheels & tyres with standard ride height or somewhat lowered. The car below only rubs the arches very lightly when turning steering full whilst hitting a bump on the road. Even when carrying 5 adults, so the offset is spot on. 225/40R17 will reduce this, but I prefer having tyres all of the same size, really.

thanks guys

i think my offset is 46, what would my options be in this case gents please?

im a bit at sea here, ive always changed alloys over here and there and never had any dramas! just used to ensure the stud pattern was right and stick them on without too much thinking, and this is with dozens of mercs and other cars! learn something new everyday!

If your width is about 7.5 - 8.5 inches & all wheels are equal sizing, you can fit a spacer of 10-7mm to each wheel (You may want to buy longer bolts to compensate for the spacer too). If it's wider than 8.25-8.5 inches you'll have rubbing on the arches, especially at full lock. If you look up say Youtube, of even google I'm sure you can find an explanation on what Offset means.

The best thing you can do is sell those and buy some MonoII
The S class offset is higher hence why the wheels stick in more

hi all

i think i will try with 10mm spacers

i quite like these alloys (they have followed me around for many years), and for me i think they look a little smarter than MonoII. i had them on another w124 saloon (17") and i think these do it a little more for me

ill double check the offset now im upto speed with it all and (i think) 10mm spacers ought to do the trick! will let you know how i get on, ill order a set of fleabay tonight!

You might get another issue later though as it might rub on the cladding

Forgive my ignorance, but if the car has FMBSH, can you not take it to Merc to get the rust sorted under warranty?

The rust goodwill gesture policy did not apply when the W124 was made, it was brought in later.

But even if it had, it only applied to rust penetration of a particular type and at 20 plus years old, not a chance.

After a year or so trying to get an AMG kit, ive now got two Full AMG kits for a W124 coupe. If you are interested in buying one of them?

Thanks for the offer and i would of bit your hand off, but having those ants in my pants i ordered a replica kit from ebay from Latvia which is en route

ive got a pattern wing

put original wheels back on until i decide what to do, so its driving around, it never ceases to amaze me how well these cars are made and pull compared to the flimsy 2000s benzes (i have a few due to being anti bmw, audi etc).

your kit must be worth 1k of anyones money mate, it ought to move sharoish if it hasnt already. lovely looker, shame to see a classic taken apart but you know better than anyone when its time to call it a day on a merc im sure.

once my kit is here ill start that thread as promised with pics galore so we can see if pattern parts, n cheap euro replica kits hit the spot or not.

cheers all

almost there

private plate on

alloys need a refurb(got 18" replicas for £200 with decent tyres)

full monotone paint job still pending, considering a slight tint all around still, then we have a full restore!:bannana:

just wanted to let u guys see where i am at the moment, but like i said ill do a breakdown of conversion when get time

one pic is of car prior to work
