Please could I have some advice on the best type/make of roof box for my C Class 270CDI Estate.

Or even better If a member has or knows of one for sale.It is not needed for Ski's. Just a medium size that is good and safe.

Regards

Mark

Thule are pretty ubiquitous. I have a Thule Polar (500 I think) and Thule roof bars. Easy to fit and remove single handedly and you can get fittings for both aero and standard bars.

Which model you want depends entirely on what you'll be putting in it as they come in different shapes and sizes but always bear in mind the max load (50Kg's in mine) and the max roof load of the car. Easy to find, Halfords, Tesco.com, ebay etc.

Google Thule Roof Box and get 1.6 million results !!

Having bought Thule standard bars years ago, I can't recommend them highly enough. Except....

If I could travel back in time I would have spent the extra tenner and bought the aero bars, which are (as the name suggests) aerodynamically shaped and make a lot less noise at speed. That noise appears at first hearing to be a constant whistling but, if you listen carefully, you can actually hear the bars slurping extra fuel from your tank.

Totally agree, aero bars all the way :D

Many thanks to you all

I use a s/h set of MB bars a MB roof box. They were originally bought for a W210 by the previous owner. They fitted straight onto my 202 estate. Needed some minor fettling to fit my 211 estate (roof is slightly wider). Not sure who actually made them.

As per the other posts they are aero bars (so relatively quiet) - worth going for. And the bars are lockable which makes the whole set up more secure.

If I hadn't lucked out on finding an imaaculate s/h MB roof box I'd have gone for Thule - and gone for lockable aero bars.
