Hi All,

I currently own a Mercedes E220D 2016 which i purchased last year, the warranty comes to an end next month. Im due a service, specifically a B1 according to the screen on the the virtual dash.

Im trying to understand the Service plans and costs attached. Ideally as the car is less than 5 years old i think i would like to get it serviced at the main dealers Mercedes. If i look at independent quotes:

Brentford £553.27
Slough £462.41

why do the prices differ from different branches? Brentford is close to me, do you think they could match this price?

whilst looking at the service plans, i get the following costs:

Payment option2 services3 services4 services
Upfront payment cost 1008.00 1512.00 2016.00
Pay monthly over 1 year info 84.00 126.00 168.00
Pay monthly over 1.5 year info 56.00
Pay monthly over 2 years info 42.00 63.00 84.00
Pay monthly over 3 years info 42.00 56.00
Pay monthly over 4 years info 42.00

Before i found the independent price of the Slough, i was really considering the Service plan as it worked out cheaper than paying £553 every year.

Am i missing something if i dont chose the service plan? Is there any scope to negotiate the Service plans?

Lastly is there a way to see online what previous services have been conducted? as i understand its all digital now.

Kind regards

No the service care plans are fixed price and so there is no opportunity to. Egotists - they are running a 20% discount which has been extended until the end of Bovember though.

The benefit of the service care plan is that it includes all additional age/mileage dependent items, which bump up the total price of the service considerably for some services.

Finally service pricing varies by dealership because they’re franchises, able to set their own pricing.

Hi

Thank you for the reply.

My understanding to your reply, and please correct me if im wrong. If i chose to pay lets say for arguement sakes £463, i could be exposed to additional charges if something comes out the wood works. Where as under a service plan this would be covered (but not for items such as brake pads?)

Where do you see this 20% offer? As i have not come across anything? Could you kindly share a link if possible?

Hi

I spoke to MB a few days ago and they advised the offer will continue to the end of November, the site has not been updated to reflect this yet.

There won’t be any surprises as long as the dealer has factored the additional items into your quote, but the next service will have a different combination of additional items.

Pop you car’s details in here and select different dealers to see different pricing. Then change the registration date ao the car appears to be 1 year older and get another quite. Repeat for another year older, etc.

That will give you an idea of future service costs and you can decide which is best for you, a service care plan or pay as you go.

PS It will still work even if the registration date predates the launch of your model!

Correct - although time based service items such as brake fluid, gearbox fluid, air / pollen filters, and spark plugs are not included the A or B service price quotes MB typically provides...

ok thank you!

Does the service routine normally go B then A then B?

Yes, A B A B A but the additional items vary by age and mileage and are at different intervals for different models.

If i get the service done by Mercedes, i guess i could go to a specialist garage to get the brake fluids etc if required to be changed!

Also change the registration plate from 16 to 15 then see the prices?

I'm on a 3 year service plan and just had my brake fluid and ATF changed as part of the plan at no extra cost.
Updating the Comand map does incur a cost though (£99)

The details you see in the ESS are correct and are carried out and included in the service plan..

All scheduled service operations are included in the service care plan.

Think you are overthinking it! If you add in all the extra mileage or time related items, that need to be added to the basic A and B service costs ( which are included in the Service Plan, ie gearbox service , 2 yearly brake fluid change etc ) I think it unlikely that the Indi will be cheaper, especially if you pay upfront and get the 20% reduction . Who knows what inflation will be for labour and MB parts post Jan 1 Brexit deal , upfront purchase will fix the price.

It will vary by car but I suspect that anything other than A service or A service plus brake fluid will work out better value on a service care plan.

Apologies guys i slightly got confused i misread one of the earlier comments in re to brake fluids. i thought it wasnt included in the service plan. I will call on monday to see if they can apply the 20% off!

Reread the Sticky FAQ:

As stated above, everything in terms of parts and labour that is scheduled to be carried out at each service during the life of the plan, including the Recommended Additional Items. This means that items that are planned to be replaced on a time or mileage interval as part of the manufacturer’s recommended service schedule, e.g. engine oil, gearbox oil, filters, spark plugs, etc. are included but it does not include wear parts such as brake pads, brake discs, or parts that have failed (unless they are a scheduled service item in their own right) replacement of which will be subject to an additional charge.

That makes sense!!!! Thanks

It's all covered here:

Do this and then you’ll know what the cost will be in the coming years. Add it it up and you’ll know whether the service care plan works for you and you car 👍🏻

By all means do the maths, but just to say that year 4 (2020) and year 5 (2021) are expensive services (unless the car has covered high mileage and was serviced more frequently than once a year), so the Service Care Plan is a no brainer.

The question is whether to buy a 2-year, 3-year, or 4-year plan, given that it is unlikely that the 20% discount offer will still be available on next renewal.

This subject is covered continuously on here with the same advice given out time and time again. I am amazed that people cannot work out themselves what is more beneficial between, a service plan, service by independent specialists or paying for a service when it’s due, including all the variances of what’s need by time/mileage.
