Just wondering, who has added an aftermarket immobiliser and what brand/model did you use? I'm thinking about getting one as my area of work and which i live in are getting worse for car crimes.. My standard alarm is sensitive but i fear it's not 100%.

I've looked into toad, as my dad has it installed in his vrs, seems to do the job but i know its had some troubles before.

Care to help? :)

You already have a Factory fitted Immobiliser, what year is the car?

I know, but like i said, i don't really trust it! And wouldn't mind the upgrade.

oh and its a '97 w202

Clifford Blackjax. Accept no substitutes :thumb:

I like the sound of this! Just watched a very cheesy video explaining how the blackjax 4 works. But I fail to understand how the immobiliser knows then the car has been jacked?

Did you install your yourself? And was it difficult?

Hi,
The standard immobiliser was a very high standard Thatcham CAT 1 IIRC.
What sort of key do you have?
If you have an electronic key then you really have nothing to be gained by fitting an immobiliser as the key it self is the only way you would be able to start it, without a laptop, specialist software, and programming equipment and being a dab hand at programming you would,nt start it without the key.

hi, i see. I have the standard infrared flip key.
Sounds decent, that being said, im guessing not a lot of you have installed aftermarket immobilisers?

Most mercedes thefts I think are the result of keys being stolen during break ins, or crooks breaking in specifically to take keys, so your better advised to hide your keys and fit an after market alarm to your house than your merc.

I am searching through the site for info on what Thatcham category immobiliser my SLK 350 R171 2005 model has.
My insurance renewal requires a Thatcham cat1 immobiliser must be fitted to the car, I am not sure which is fitted on my car.
Any ideas?

Hi, I have a Clifford G5 Concept 650 which I removed from a 300se about a month ago. It was fitted new by a Clifford agent around December 2013, but I didn't like it when it was fitted because it just didn't suit being in a 1980's car.

My own mechanic [ex Lotus] removed it with all the original wiring and fittings and I am looking to sell it, if you are interested. It is complete with everything that was supplied from new.

This Clifford cost over £700 when it was supplied three months ago and was in the car for two months. It is the top unit from Clifford and came with things like glass break sensor, vibration sensor and remote start unit. There are both remotes and they have almost unused batteries.

I took out the system because the car is parked in a warehouse for up to three months at a time, and I found that the alarm would drain the battery when left on for that length of time. It was just too inconvenient trying to get either the battery put on charge while I am away, or getting a jump start at 10 o'clock at night when I needed the car to get home.

I would be prepared to sell for around £375 - 400 if you are interested.

I retro fitted the full Mercedes alarm to my Vito, this has bonnet switch, pressure sensor, anti tow & motion sensor!! Its been fine, no problems with it and of course no extra key fobs. It just works in conjunction with the canbus system so any interior lights come on, any doors opened jobs a good un & sirens a plenty. there must be a version of it for your vehicle.
Hope you find what your after.

Thanks for your info, the TC2 prefix made me unsure if it was Cat2, cheers.
