Guys..

advise please..

With a car of x number of years old, if i were to get a decent aftermarket warranty cover, whats the best company to go for, or whom have the best deals and the best claim for..

i need this advise for the w140 im thinking of going for..

any help is appreciated!

This company are recommended by a car club which I am a member of, I have no personal experience of them.

Car Care Plan

Most companies tailor the policy to the car model. There are many exclusions also such that only the major mechanical drive train components are covered. The W140 has quite a number of expensive electronic modules . I'm just not sure if any policy will cover them?? Balance the policy cost V what's covered very carefully.

decent aftermarket warranty cover

My (admittedly slight) experience in these matters renders this phrase virtually an oxymoron.

If there are good one(s) out there, they are few and far between. Better to keep the money in your pocket on the off-chance it is needed for repairs, IMHO.

Plus, I would imagine the older the car, the easier it is for them to wriggle out of any form of payout.

You should only ever buy one of these policies as an insurance towards a better night's sleep, i.e. if having one makes you sleep a little easier. Certainly don't buy it in the expectation that the warranty company will actually fix your car if it goes 'pop'.

Tesco have been good for me but will not cover an MB of that age.

I like the look of Warrantywise. It appears to be open/honest and upfront. Website is good and you can select level of cover and hourly labour rates to suit. It also allows you to pay on a month by month basis.

Auto Protect are pretty good, used them a number of times and made a few claims without too much hassle.

Just checked these out for myself, they won't cover a car that has done over 120K, over 12 years old or valued under £2000.

I've had experience with two warranty companies, and neither was satisfactory in terms of the ease with which they turned down claims. I would now open a savings account specifically for the car and put into it what would have gone into a warranty premium. If you need it, it's there; if you don't need it, you can spend it on something else. I know that interest rates are lousy currently, but that won't last for ever. Warranty companies are in business to stay in business, and their income is your money.

In my experience it's extremely difficult to get cover on cars more than ten years old or with more than 100,000 miles

I use a company called WarrantyWorks. I don't have much of a claims history but they do seem to be good with "failure" claims

As with all warranty companies "wear & tear" claims are not covered

First hand experience with my Maserati - avoid!

Why do you need a warranty on a W140? The car can't be worth more than £5k? Worst case you break it for parts to recover those costs. Money is better off in the bank than with these people IMO.
