Air bag recall. How can I tell if they have been replaced.

I agree. I think I may end up getting it checked out.
Someone may have covered this, but if you go on to the DVLA website and do an MOT vehicle check, whether you need one or not, the site lists outstanding recalls and whether the job has been officially closed or not. It takes a short while for the system to update. I’m not saying it’s foolproof, but a dealer would have to be reckless to show a recall as complete if they hadn’t done it.

So, has anyone actually had this job closed out on the Mercedes site or the DVLA and if so, how long did it take?

Yes, I had a different recall on a '21 GLE53 that was done by the dealer and when I checked shortly afterwards on the DVLA it was still open. I queried it with the dealer and it was because they hadn't closed it our properly (it had a full service at the same time, so they just missed it). It can take up to three weeks I think (not sure) but if it was any longer I'd poke the dealer.

The DVLA service is useful as well if you're buying a used car

Thanks. That's useful to know. I'll check regularly

Put your VIN in hers and it’ll tell you if it’s been done

Edit: you know what's funny? Mine's been 'done', but if I use that link, mine says that the status is 'open'. I'll have to give them a call... Brentford were utterly useless from start to finish.
Thanks for posting, I wasn't aware of that web-link previously. It shows my airbag as 'done', and I was pleased to see it shows the diesel software update as 'open', as I went to great lengths to impress on them that I did not want it done and was assured that it wouldn't be, and wasn't, done.

I was given a paper invoice afterwards, clearly stating the job number and 'safety recall no. xxxx replace airbag carried out' etc, together with a print-out of the Merdedes Off-Ramp visual check, showing nil cost.

I'm still of the view that if a franchised MB dealer has stated that they've undertaken an official safety-critical recall, that they will have done it. The repercussions of not doing so, in the event of an 'incident', would potentially be huge.

I acknowledge that many are suspicious that some routine service jobs might sometimes not be carried out (ie pollen filter if low mileage), and whilst I have experiended this years ago with a franchised (not MB) dealer, I've always been happy that my MB dealer has done what they've said they've done.

Many years ago my local franchised (not MB) village garage, used to leave a bag of 'bits' in the footwell. When asked why, they stated that it was to show customers what had been changed. Of course, conspiracy theorists could say that they kept bags of bits for that purpose, but how far do you let your paranoia go? :)
