Air con not working in 2003 SL any idea?

My dads just returned from France and on teh way down tried the Air con...

Nothing, the light comes on flashes a few times then goes off.

He tried to get the Merc garage to look at it while there but couldn't fit it in. He then took it to another garage where they re gassed it but nothing. Told him it may need a new can or bottle attachment with some 'o' rings. This was ordered from Merc and the other garage then fitted it and re gassed it..but nothing.

Any idea what it could be? If its the compressor then I guess a bit pricey?

You really need to get the fault codes read before you start paying for and fitting new parts. If it has shut down due to low refrigerant pressure it could be a leak from somewhere like the condensor as Jay says

Any decent MB specialist or air conditioning repair place should be able to look at this.

I'm not overly familiar with the A/C system on your Dad's SL, but on some MBs you can read the diagnostic info and read/erase the fault codes through the LCD panel

The AC people really shouldnt be re-gassing without checking for leaks, if the leak is not obvious they can regass and put in UV dye to identify if its leaking.

He was in France for 3 weeks and the local Mercedes garage couln't fit it in to look at. They suggested this bottle thing so he had a Air con place fit and look into it.

He will, now home book it in here, but just thought its worth asking first if anyone has had similar

Lucky they could put the roof down as it was 35 degrees
