Hi Guys,

My a/c compressor seems to have packed up. Any guidance on this? I"ve searched the threads, and it seems like the compressor itself is fairly pricey.

What I'm thinking is that it would be very easy to replace the compressor and not fix the problem, so I'm minded to take the car to Compressortech, an air conditioning specialist. They seem to know all of the common problems, and will go right through the system, rather than just blindly replacing the compressor.

Any advice welcome! Thanks in advance,

David

Are you sure it's the compressor? The AC system has a pressure switch, so the compressor won't activate if the system is low on refrigerant gas.

I've check for leaks before replacing the compressor.

You'd need to use an AC specialist regardless to drain the remaining gas, and do a vacuum test.

It's not as expensive as you may think. Most MB specialists do AC work as almost every car has AC these days. It's not as specialist an activity as it used to be.
