Hi,

Can anyone help - I am getting a funny smell from the Air Conditioning unit when starting the car up ..then its Ok.

Cheers

Its usually due to bacteria growth on the cabin heat exchanger. They thrive in damp conditions so check your drain lines are not blocked. Any reputable air-con specialist should be able to sort this at little expense. Alternatively there are DIY aerosol cans.

Also, change your cabin filter. It's worth paying the extra for active carbon filters.
Cured the smell from the air-con in my car instantly.

Turn your heater controls up to max for the last 5 mins of your journey -every journey. This will dry the system out and you should not have that smell the next morning.
Mercedes will charge you £100 per hour for this information,an Indie will charge £40/50-this forum charges nowt.
Happy motoring!

As you can see, my car's a bit smelly, too. :D

Da ho's be dissin' my ride. Innit.

Thought I should get in character. ;)

Thanks for the advice... Any one know how to replace the Pollen filter on W209 ( o4 CLK ) and where to look for the drain pipe ?? to see if its blocked

ask the local dealer for filter postion .... get comma from e-bay change filter .... clear blockage ....... and wait for this thread to be moved as you may get a better responce if you posted it in the right section :D :D :D

if you take a look at the main page you will see different headings .... I beleave this on should have gone in interior as it refers to a interior issue ....you posted your thread in Mercedes specialist across the uk....we have all done it ...the mods get a bit frumpty about it, they like to keep thing tidy and in most cases you get a faster reply

Get an Air Con service, they usually cost 99.99 but they last for 4 years and the smell of the chemical cleaner goes away after 2 hours.
