I own a 2005 CLK Cabriolet and even in the middle of summer my son complains that it is too cold in the back with the roof down, which really defeats the whole purpose of owning a carbiolet! The new E class carbrio has addressed this problem with the Aircap system - does anyone know of a similar after-market solution for the CLK? The M-B Wind deflector is not what I'm after - I need something to stop the rear-seat passengers getting blown about.

If nobody has solved this problem I may have a go at creating my own solution, but it might end up being a bit "Heath Robinson".

If I have rear seat passengers I keep the roof up with the air con on in warm weather.

That is a good point Simon_M. What about a flying suit with hat and goggles too match?

As a kid I used to travel in the back of my grandfather's XK 150S drophead ... I wore a leather flying helmet & goggles! :D

My 7 year old son rides in the back of our SL with the hood down - we just make sure he's dressed up well. A hat/cap and sunglasses help a lot.

I'd be wary of adding DIY spoilers/guards to your CLK ... they'd be subject to significant forces at speed. I've never heard of any aftermarket products, probably for the same reason. I suspect there's some fairly serious engineering involved in Airscarf ... cetainly on the spoiler at the top of the windscreen.

Wind deflector with perspex insert rather than the mesh might help rear passengers but if you think about the principle, the same behind the rear seats, perhaps using the head rest mounts/uprights as attachment points. Perspex (or acrylic) in a decent thickness is quite cheap for experimenting; just cut a few slots in strategic places for velcro straps.

Be careful as the headrests are the active roll-over protection

Also ... thick perspex/acrylic sheet coming off at 70+ on the motorway because the straps didn't hold is not going to be nice for whoever is behind you.
