Aircon smells vile..W204

Back to the inlet housing. It is near the bulkhead under the bonnet and takes air into the system. Mercedes told me the inlets were hidden and this was the reason why the aircon disinfectants are put into the outlets via a long flexible tube. This seems a bit odd to me. Has anybody done it by removing the inlet duct and injecting stuff directly with the aircon running?
thanks

Pour a boiling kettle into the scuttle drains . If you see hot water under the car shortly after , you know that drain is clear.

A few weeks ago - after lockdown - I used this product from Euro Car Parts to cure a rotten egg smell from my aircon.

TRIPLE QX Aircon Sanitizer 150 ECP Pt. # 542772970 £3.79

It certainly cured the rotten egg smell and it has not come back.
BUT - The residual smell of the sanitizer "bomb" was only marginally less-bad than the original smell.
It's gone now, but it took about three weeks to fade away - and it was NOT pleasant.

That clip is a French Connection , the supplied new wouldn't have it .

The previous old went straight on , lesson learnt .

I bought a new filter but it doesn't fit because it is about 1mm too long so I can't engage the clip that keeps it in position :-(
Is this that you can't slide across the black and white backing plate?

On my w212 there should be two steel clips on each end, I think like tiny money clips for a wade of £20s.

I found I could cable tie the ends instead through two loops of plastic, which pulled the filter just into position enough so that I could slide the retaining black/white clip across to secure it.

Might be the same for your car and if you have a couple of 5mm cable ties kicking around ...

AC should be on all the time, the gas keeps the system lubricated and the airflow prevents pockets of moisture in which mould can grow.

Check all scuttles and the air inlet is clean and the clear of old leaves etc and that once clean boiling water runs freely.

Replace the cabin filters - use MB genuine - no issues with fitment.

Then use an AC bomb, Place in the car, AC on full wack (on re-circulate).

MB are upselling an AC disinfectant service I seen for about 30 notes.

Exactly. I will try this today.
Thanks

So, to me surprise, the smell has gone completely. All I have done is run the aircon more than usual ! Let's hope it stays that way
