Seeing as it's been nearly a year since you posted this, and I was thinking of trying the same approach, is the system still blowing cold air? Would you recommend Duracool?
My car stood barely used for 5 years or so, and during that time the aircon gas leaked out, and the seals dried up. If I can bring it back to life without an expensive rebuild then it's worth a go.
The A/C ran nice and cold for a month or so and then the system starting becoming less so. I checked the pressure of the system and it had dropped, so assume a significant leak/wear somewhere. Decided I did'nt wish to throw any more cash at it.
A problem with investing largish cash sums into an old car is that sometimes another issue/issues come along soon after finishing with the previous, denting one's enthusiam. Guess that's why most cars grow old gracefully, the owners running them on a shoestring !
