The airmatic on my E55 seems fine but wanted to know if there were any preventive measures i could take in their maintenance? If the car doesn't get used much is there something i should do as a precautionary measure? Don't think i will even be using the function much as sports 2 setting seems fine and clears ramps etc I know theres not much you can do about them getting brittle due to age and fluctuations in weather.... Car isn't stored in the garage.... Any advice would be appreciated.... Have a good one!

I have heard it said several times now that you should get into the habit of parking with the wheels in the straight ahead position..
The idea is that you wont write off your front wings in the event of a strut leaking / collapsing..

They are expensive to replace when they go wrong BUT there is another option..
Its perfectly possible to have the car converted back to normal springs and shocks.. In the US this is a pretty common procedure.

Just a thought.

Many thx.. Any info is a bonus.... I have heard the conversion kits... But probably would only consider if 2 go at same time... I will see what happens over next few years with present set up...i.e leaks etc before conteplating full change over

There is another option...
There is an American company called Arnott who remanufacture the air spring units for all makes of car..
The good news is that there is now a company in the UK that deals with them..

At the moment they only advertise the rear sprigs units but in America front and rear are available...

They do 2 types of air spring. "Sports" which are a firmer ride and the "standard' ones which are the normal ones fitted as standard to the car..

The thing is they are half the price of the Mercedes units..
