Alarm activation indication

Sorry if this is elsewhere have searched unsuccessful.

Had the alarm go off on our 07 W221 according to friends stood by it. When unlocking the car though we had no indication of this having happened. On our other cars the indicators would flash multiple times or the horn sound differently to show an activation.

Having read through the handbook I can not see any reference to this.

Does anyone know if the car will indicate an activation and if so how,

Many thanks

Not heard of that on modern Mercedes cars, however, if there is some kind of feedback for the driver, when an alarm is triggered, then it would seem logical for this warning to be obvious and displayed by means of a flashing light on the cabin alarm switch or some message appearing on the cluster.

If the alarm is going off without an obvious reason then it is best to test it, when you trigger the alarm, let it run its full cycle, the alarm cycle is about 3 minutes of flashing of the hazard lights and about 30 seconds of siren noise. See here… http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/electronics/169666-w202-how-test-car-alarm.html

After the test, observe what happens when you unlock the car and get inside, check if the alarm switche light flashes in any unusual way or it there is some message in the cluster when you turn the ignition on.

Hi Dec and thanks,
Once home I will give that a go. Was surprised the section on the alarm is so small in the manual. My Volvo gives me options for indicators only to show arm or disarm. You can also set the alarm to chirp when locking and unlocking and as said it will let you know when you unlock it if it was activated whilst away.

The Merc though seems to give you no options or signals. Very limited system.

The only way of finding out what triggered the alarm that time is to have the car plugged into STAR diagnostic, that’s going to cost money and time. If it happens again then the alarm is probably on its way out, it’s common problem, the all start to give trouble when the are around 10 years old.

I will wait and see if it becomes a problem and have it checked at the next service when they read the car as usual anyway.

Thanks

Mike
