Alpine KCE 425i

I recently purchased a 2003 SL600, the first Merc I have ever owned after spending quite a few years with Mr. Beemer. Absolutely loving the car and looking forward to warmer dry roads and possibly first ever European tour with a car......wife usually not interested but with the SL I am hearing some positive noises:bannana: Although that may change when I ask if she can drive so I can also bring along the bike..

When looking at SL's of that vintage iPod compatability did seem to be an issue. Some basic research suggested I could link an iPod up using the KCE 425i which would charge it and display tracks and album art onto the Command screen. Control would be via a separate remote which wasn't a big issue. I currently have the iPod in the glove compartment and control it using a logic 3 rf remote control. Works ok but drains battery and I can't see tracks. I tend to chuck lots of music onto the iPod & listen on random so nice to hear a good track and quickly see the artist etc.

Just bought the Alpine unit on ebay for £65, wondering whether anyone can point me in a direction on some advice installing it. My car has the tv tuner which can still be retained according to some posts but it may push the complexity outside my fairly basic level.

Alpine site should have downloads for the installation and user manual. If not email them and they should be able to provide it. Also AFAIK the interface supplied with the unit is vehicle specific so you need to check you have the right one.

The Alpine KC 425i works very well with the SL's D2b Comand Screen. It took me almost a year to track down an interface allowing me to can see the tracks from my Ipod. The separate remote works fine..well it did until I took it to Mercedes for some warranty work and they messed about with the wiring so I can't see my tracks at the moment.
Its a good system but I can't help you with the installation as I paid someone to do it.

AS new to the site and cant send any pm's can you guys hel[p out with the following? Recently bought a CL55 MY04 so D2B system - bought Apline KCE-425 so curious as to how the install went on the CL55 & SL as similar platform and most importantly what MMI interface you found worked best? Any help v.much appreciated!!
