No, this isn't a Merc but its a split screen camper and I've looking for some time.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/vw-split-scre...593179055QQcategoryZ18303QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Only trouble is it looks odd. Something perhaps not quite right.

Only a 1 day auction. No reserve. Pre approved biiders only (i've applied).

Yet its a good e-bayer - great feedback - long standing member......

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks

I'm suspicious of one day auctions. The only reason I can think of that someone would use the very shortest auction duration was if they were using a spoofed/stolen account, and they want the auction to finish early to get money quicker, and reduce the risk that the real account holder realises.

Sorry but one day auctions and pre-approved bidders are tell tale signs of a scammer at work. Apologies if it's all above board though - I'm just an old cynic!!

They are certainly a collectors item, and no doubt you will very quickly find out if it is a genuine auction.

Certainly a very 1960's flower power mobile  :) Happy days :) (very contented grin)

Good luck,
John

£3,800 seems mighty cheap for a fully restored one. I hate to be cynical but this surely isn't for real.

I would say that is a scam imo it is too specialist to have on a one day auction.

I am always suspicious where the email address is a link different to the account user name.

I.e on my auctions I list an email address but it matches the Ebay account name and also if the email through Ebay they send you the email to your registered account so no need for it really.

Be careful!

Sadly I'm inclined to agree and am going to watch but not bid.

I'm getting a bit fed up with the scams on ebay. Still, it seems we're all developing a "nose" for them. !

Hmm ... description says right hand drive, but the interior pic. seems to show left hand drive!

My parents had a very similar D reg. one which was our everyday car (not much else seated 6 people in those days).

SCAM.

For questions and more details please email direct to [email protected]

gives it away if this isnt the same addy as their "ask a seller a question". try asking a question via the "ask a seller a question" this means u will get thru to the genuine ebay user rather than people who have hijecked the account and using a hotmal/msn address with a suspect username lmd20000

avoid if unsure!

Well I contacted the member, and rather surprisingly got the following reply:

The deal will happen through SquareTrade. I am an affiliated member of
eBay
SquareTrade, I have there a purchase protection account up to £3,800
and I
assume you know what this means.

How you are protected by eBay SquareTrade:

1) If you will not receive the camper as i described to you, although
this
is not the case, eBay SquareTrade will refund you with 100% from the
whole
amount which you paid me. Even in case you will not receive the van,
they
will refund you the money.
2) They will verify the payment and if is OK, if the money exist and
are
available they will notify me to proceed with the shipping. After you
receive it and see that the camper is the one you want, you just notify
SquareTrade to forward me the payment details in order for me to pick
up my
money.

Please e-mail me you eBay user ID and your full name and address, so I
can
get in touch with eBay SquareTrade. They will instruct you how to
proceed.

Thank you, Mark

Sounds like a con.

Ask him when you can actually come to his home address, and get his home telephone number.

It seems like he is after your personal details.

I have had a number of similar instances regarding telescopes.

Good luck, but do NOT give out any details.

John

i think people should be very careful when buying of ebay in the run up to christmas.

the scammers look as if they are out in full force and common sense must prevail, if it looks to good to be true, then it is and walk away.

Ask to pick up where possible and always contact a seller before you buy.

Ask him where the camper can be viewed, that should produce some excuses...

Interesting to see that clueless Americans have fallen for these scams and posted off $000's...

I wonder how many subjects worldwide fall for this, including the UK? I have reported numerous posts to Ebay and unfortunately they take little, to no action.

Ebay is the criminals paradise.
