Seems some 55 AMG Engines suffer from a slight idle problem, while this is normally attributed, to HT Leads, Spark plugs or the big one Vacuum Leak.

Another thing to consider is the OIL Cap, seems the cap has been superseded and the new one is a much tighter fit than the original, the original part number on my car was A00900285 The new one is A0000101485 Costs approx £4.95 + vat and worth changing, I am not saying it will cure all your problems but certainly worth a shot.

Is it tighter because it's new or because it's a redesign? Superceded part numbers are often just a manufacturer change.

Or perhaps simply because it has a new gasket?

Part A1110180080 (oil filter cap gasket) is the same for both caps

Already changed the £2 gasket weeks ago and was the same fitment as the old one, the new cap is a tighter fit.. mine was leaking changed = problem gone thanks, Its only £3 extra for the cap and seal, and if I knew this 1st time round, I would have just purchased the cap in the 1st place.

Good to know. I think I'll give the new cap a go! :thumb:

For a few quid it seems the whole cap is worth replacing as a matter of course.

Correct mate, thought merc caps where around £20 so just changed the gasket last time as I never thought they would had changed the design, wish I had bought the cap in the 1st place... anyway the new one is a new design and does up much tighter. And as you say worth replacing as a matter of course

mine was replaced by the dealer during the last service
