AMG A35 Owners Thread

Jesus I just realised there's a CLA and a Saloon???? WTF?? Why two identical cars?? Has mercedes just out niche themselves? Especially when Imho small saloons are junk.
Isn’t the A35 saloon fundamentally the same car as the A35 hatchback?

If we are applying 1989 values then a a35 is uncool due to having 2 too many doors. Back in the day it was either 3 door hot hatch or thunder saloon, 5 door hatches were for yuppie twats

Quads going on tomorrow but I am in two minds if I'm thinking of handing it back.... Will see.

I must admit I’ve been thinking about selling my A45. It’s only 2 years old with 6k miles on the clock. It’s every time I start looking on auto trader my brain goes into overdrive and then I get a slap on the back of the head from Mrs. B. Decisions decisions :dk:

Would you use a different car any more than have used the A45 in the current world?

No thats the thing, I wouldn’t. I think this lockdown has screwed my head up 😊

Ive only done 1k miles in 12 months. I’ve never used the windscreen wipers and I’ve never driven the car in the dark. I don’t even know how to switch the bloody lights on. What’s that all about :dk: :wallbash:

Hi All

Anyone getting a sort of grinding noise (best I can describe it) from the front wheels when changing gear to reverse from drive or vice versa? It doesn't happen all the time but often when driving for less than half an hour.

Also, getting a loud thud - from what I think is coming from the back wheels, rotors/brake pads - when driving off initially especially when it has rained the night before.

Called Mercedes a while back and they've said its normal when car has sat idle for a while and when it has rained. The first issue described above, their response seemed a bit weak but then again I'm no exoert... Something about it being a new car and these noises will clear up soon.

Had the car for less than a year, under 1,500 miles (not driven it enough because of the situation we're in). Due a service soon so will bring it up then but thought I'd get some advice here from anyone whose had similar problems?

The thud is water ’rusting’ (binding) between the pads and disks. Same as if you wash your wheels and don’t move the car for quite a few hours. Should feel like the car is unsticking from something. No clue on the grinding.

Thanks. Makes sense.
The grinding noise is concerning me more and more. Will have to take it up with Mercedes.

Good luck. A few years back I had an A45 with a gearbox issue, the box not wanting to go into gear on occasions. MB was useless.

Test drove a 45s, but it was such a mental high revving car, was hard to not drive like an idiot, not very relaxing and this is predominantly a car for the wife. I take it the 35 is a bit better mannered.

Honestly, that 45s, race mode wasn't much different to comfort. One sniff on the throttle and it was punching gears and flying down the road.

I think the A35AMG is all the car most of us need, with clear distinction between comfort and race modes. Mine is a year old and I still love it.

Getting excited for mine now, collection is Friday morning.
Are all A35 cars badly built, or is it just mine, been in to dealer twice for the same interior rattles and they can never hear it, let alone fix it, last time they had the car for 5 day, can’t hear the noise, I got car back and heard the rattles within 5 minutes and also a few new ones, car is going back to dealer in a couple of weeks for a new problem, engine management light is now on, car was built in Finland, only good thing to come from there is the sauna.
