AMG - soon just another trim level?

Little details are what matters. I once had an Alpina B5 (twin-turbo V8 producing over 500bhp) pull alongside me (in my Alpina). I could tell it was an Alpina simply by the pattern the wheels made. The one badge on the back merely confirmed it. Absolute potency with absolute discretion. They are still made in tiny numbers, despite being fully owned by BMW and only Alpina owners may order replacement model designations.

You don't get a label on a Savile Row suit.

I was very impressed by a car salesman on a military base in Germany. He'd met me at security and I followed him back to the car showroom (really a converted metal container!). He then asked me if my was an AMG.

It was a W203 C320 cdi with the AMG sports pack, still relatively unusual in 2007. He'd clocked the grill, under the bumper in his rear view mirror.

I would not have spotted it in a million years.

I bet you could get a badge from China without any difficulty.

Potential investment / appreciating asset?

Any modern AMG as a potential investment?, not if you buy it new .

Er no. Pre-owned!

If I had the money for a new AMG, I'd be buying a pre-owed G-Wagen!

I can't see any real reason to consider an affordable AMG to offer serious investment potential, after costs.

Just run them for the joy of a good old-fashioned large displacement V8 and if they appreciate, think of it as an added bonus.

This is a silly thread........who cares whether it has got an AMG badge, or mats, two numbers, three numbers so on...... or not, at the end of the day it is just another car.........

has any one actually sold an AMG for more than he/she paid for it?

That depends...

If sale price > purchase price, yes.

If sale price > purchase price and things spent on it, no.

It wasn't a big profit either.

it is just another car.........

This thread isn't for you, though not all 220 CDI owners feel the same as you do - many "get it".

It's an enthusiast's forum - you may expect more threads like this.

Having just spent the day at Mercedes Benz World driving the E63 & C63 AMG I can confirm that true AMGs are still available in the market. Having traded in my 911 (991 series) for a C63 507 edition, I am not disappointed with my decision, although there are a few that believe Porsche is no longer a sports car maker since the introduction of the Cayenne and Diesel engines. I don't see an issue with customers buying AMG "styling kits" and badging their cars accordingly. My sense is it is clear the distinction between an AMG and an AMG styled car......unfortunately I did not get the chance to drive the C63 Black Series Coupe....I guess that would be classed as a double strength AMG?

About £250!

But that was after fitting Viseeo, new Michelins all round, sorting the mirrors and servicing it, all in 6 months.

So, it was pretty much an illusory gain!

but when you cost your time and effort in doing things to it, do you still make money?

still better than a loss!

Yes; I never did anything to the cars myself, I paid others to do the work so it took very little effort on my part really.

The C32 will be an exception to this rule though...:o

Just bumped my thread regarding the profit on a amg.
