Anniversary

Dave, having followed this thread I'm now curious to know what you've had done altogether?

An awful amount. :D It's all on the forum somewhere, though I've put it all on here to save the searching and repetition.

I've listed the main bits below, though it's all the other little time consuming things which no-one sees that tend to matter, and then the getting everything to work together.

Quaife LSD
Resonator removal, replaced with H pipe
Weistec 3" downpipes from the turbos back
AMS Carbon intake system with high flow filters
Weistec mapped ECU
Weistec W3 turbos
Weistec bullet proof transmission
Weistec mapped ECU (again)

The ECU was sent to Weistec in the US initially as nobody had found a way into them in the UK at that time. When it came back (eventually) it was good and eliminated the check engine light which the O2 sensor had been throwing up but made the accelerator a bit like an on/off switch. John at Big Fish refined the map eventually and, whilst it didn't gain any more power, it just made it so much smoother to use. The second time it travelled over was when the turbos and the gearbox went across for their respective rebuilds. This was just because Weistec had already got a map in place for all my mods so it seemed a logical progression. It's since been tweaked by Jerry from Eurocharged who managed to get a lot more power out of it just by taking a few different parameters into account, as proved by it's last dyno run.

It drives just like a normal E63 when taking it easy, with the exception of the gearbox which is now a bit harsh as it's basically a racing one, though this is a small price to pay for the instant changes I now get. :thumb:

Mental car. The fact it looks so standard makes it even more mental. Love it Dave. Hat off to you.

I'll never forget the morning of the msl day when you give it the beans towards us when you turned up. Sounds good, looks good, and it's f***ing quick!!

Sounds like some amazing work there - and no wonder it's loud!

Fantastic motor...

Nice write up !

I've had some amazing cars in my time from GT-R's , 911 turbos a C63 and a whole load of M cars, but the E63 is DEFINITELY the best car I've ever owned, and mine is stock ! (Off to see Acid in 2 days for downpipe and map!)

May I ask, where did you get you induction kit? Looks amazing, but couldn't find anything on the AMS website

On paper then it probably would be, though it needs a few timed runs on tarmac to confirm that as it's not built for running on paper. :D Hopefully early this year we'll be able to do something.

What tyres will you use for timed runs? I'd have thought tyres would now be the limiting factor to maximising acceleration. Some slicks and a nice grippy surface would probably make for some fairly insane figures...

It must have cost a fortune to have that amount of work done to it?

Happy Carniversary mate!

so, i have 12 mnths to save up ;)

Thanks. :)

Imported it via MSL (I think Rebellion also used to be an agent for them) though not something I'd recommend unless you're going for bigger turbos. It seems to have been removed from their website now for some reason...:dk:

It won't be on a strip but a runway. Dragging it would be a bit pointless as it doesn't get any traction and I'm not messing with slicks. :(

Irrelevant. I wanted to do it.

Happy Carniversary mate!

Thank you dear. :D

Back of an ever increasing queue my mate. I'd have your 211 in a heartbeat as a part ex though.

Well, it's exactly three years to the day since I bought my E63 from MB Harrogate. It certainly doesn't feel that long as usually cars don't last that length of time here, getting swapped after 12 - 18 months usually, less if I don't get on with them.

I spent a long time looking for the right car and, when this one appeared on the radar, just knew that it was the one I wanted. This was confirmed when the salesman actually brought the car round to my house for me to view, as soon as I saw it I knew it was what I'd been looking for. This made his day easier I should imagine, and most of the time was spent with me drooling and him working figures out on the part exchange (Jaguar XFR which I never gelled with).

The first month or so, all I did with it was clean it, with a few nice long drives to get the smile off my face, though this is still there everytime I go out in it. I then decided to add a Quaife to help with the traction issues and after that, the slippery slope began. It's had a lot done to it since then, from the intakes to the exhaust with lots in between, and it still feels special to me every time I use it, which isn't often in the Winter I have to admit.

The current figures I have for it are 728bhp with 791lb/ft, which is a fair increase on factory figures. Even more so when you consider that these are rear wheel figures and not flywheel, though I'm a bit reluctant to use the 18% conversion as I don't think that it gives a true reading. Suffice to say that it now has a "sufficient" amount of power to keep me aware and awake. :)

I have considered selling it, though it's a case of what do I replace it with? It's quick, comfy and looks good, so to get something that falls into all those categories I'd probably just end up with the same again. I also now have a comfy 4x4 for everyday stuff, so the Merc can still remain a special car to me, which is what I want.

It currently sits on 24,800 miles, it was 4,100 when I picked it up, and I do have a full list of costs for it, though this has mostly been modifications, with the odd set of tyres thrown in so pretty irrelevant really. It's had one breakdown in my three year tenure, which was a completely flat battery caused by a power steering fault and cured by a software update by Mercedes. I've spent just over £20k on fuel and it's had the obligatory 12 month servicing from my local main dealer. Plus several oil changes in between due to messing about with turbos and transmission. :)

I think that Ill probably keep it for at least another 12 months now, possibly longer as it doesn't see a lot of use and I still enjoy driving it.

Finally, a big thanks to Acid and all at MSL for their support and patience, Anthony at Weistec, Jerry at Eurocharged, John at Big Fish Tuning and Chris at my local main dealer for all their help and to Lee C63, Jimmy G & Chris A (amongst other forum members) for giving me the motivation to just get on with this little project.

Sorry to have bored you all. :)

Great write up, no boredom here. In the last few years I've been guilty of changing my car at least once a year, but like you I have decided to keep this because there's not else i want. I may even wait 2-3 more years yet for a used new shape e63.

I've spent so much time and money on it I can't let it go.

MSL are just awesome at what they do, enjoy.

P.s did you have a golf R ? I'm sure I recognise you username from another forum.

Welcome to the e63 club anyway

Last couple of years my "daily driver" has gone from :

BMW M5 (V10)
VW Golf R (mk6)
BMW X5 40d
BMW X6M
BMW M135i
Nissan GT-R
Mercedes E300

and finally the E63 !!!! This is the best car I've ever owned and it's a keeper!

Ps - yes I had the same screen name on the Golf R forum!

It must have cost a fortune to have that amount of work done to it?

Not compared to the cost of any other 800+hp car! What other car with this power could be had for the same cost?

Have you had ever thought that you'd need more power - especially since new turbos producing more power have started to become available? Most probably wouldn't but there are some stories where people "get used to it".

Cracking thread.........it's threads like these that help you pick your next car....

Stunning car.......

Weistec water meth kit next Dave.......stop messing about you know you need it and probably another 50 bhp
