Hi all,
I have a CLK230K (208) and this is the first time its been used by me in the cold weather, i dont know whether its coincidence or not , but every minute i am getting a beep and its only seemed to of started since the snow has arrived, could it be a temp warning or something? no warnings on display, but saying that the only thing that does not work on car is temp display, this beep is so annoying please help.
Thanks in advance
Wayne

More Annoying Beeps (both meanings!)

I have a C200 (2004) W203 salooon and have been getting the same or similiar annoying noises ... essentially it's a beep when you open the door folllowed, after about 5 seconds, by a triple beep and then after the engine is started a double beep every 30 seconds or so. After about 5 minutes driving it goes away - but it is annoying!! I have checked all lighting switches and whilst the "lights on" beep is similar in sound ... the gap between the two beeps is much shorter.

This has only started happening in the last week or so as the (very) cold weather has arrived - which is why I thought it may be simlar to waynetso's post. Any clues?

Here are some thoughts:

1. Got into my w203 this morning, outside temp was -2.0, no beeps, so I don't think there is a cold weather beep on MBs? But you do have a point, on a previous car (not MB) for example, when temp was below +3.0 the temp display would flash to warn of black ice.

2. It could not be the seat belt warning by any chance? I meant it being faulty obviously, not suggesting you (or your passenger) being without the belt. You did not have some heavy bag on the passenger seat next to you?

3. Also on a previous car - not MB - the alarm sounder had a built-in rechargeable NiCd battery (for obvious reason), and when its voltage was low - or it died - there was a reoccurring beep to let you know of the problem. Don't know if MBs have such a feature though.

4. It isn't the beep telling you that you have acceded the next service interval? Car isn't due an A or B service?

Hope this helps.

Thank you ... most helpful as your suggestions confirmed my further actions this morning. The beep is much quieter than the seatbelt beep and I'm 3300 miles away from an A service - my only concern is I am new to MBs and I might be missing something and I don't want to pay £100 for a diagnostic if "they all do that sir" is the response!

I hadn't thought of a battery charging scenario but can easily see how it could be the case but don't know if it is relevant for the W203 (due to my ignorance!) ... however, if it is relevant, that could be why it stops after about 5 mins or so as by that time the NiCd could be charged ??? Thanks again for help.

I get a weird beep coming from the rear left of my E Class every now and again, I've put it down to some sort of sensor thinking that someone is sitting in the back without seatbelt when they aren't. It's strange, as yours is, because normally beeps are accompanied by messages on the dash!

WilsonUK - thanks for confirming I am not going crazy ... it has - mysteriously -stopped now and the weather is just the same (frrrrreeezing) and nothing else has changed ... so, hopefully ... much ado about nothing!
