Today I was driving along and I approached a mini-roundabout (those crappy dots in the road) and over I went, at the same time another bloke was burning around it comming from my right.

As I watched him nearly hit me I end up in the back of a '03 reg Ford Focus :(

The focus then hits the back of a lorry wedging itself for a second. The Focus & lorry were stopped due to traffic.

The damage? on mine the left-hand side bumper has been pushed back about 2cm and the rightside out 2cm. It has also created a huge network of cracks in the paint etc which now has the orignal green colour poking through.

Her car has a small crack to the rear right bumper + scratches, and her front bumper has huge scratches/gashes into it due to it hitting the lorry. (lorry unharmed).

After 4 years no claims, I lose 2 not all : :) :brickwall:

So for a moment looking away I have lost 2 years no claims & wrecked my bumper (Shude those bumpers must be cursed!)

That's a shame that is - hope you don't get stung for it all - although you might :(

The last time you bumped your car I suggested they might be, now it seems it might be true!

Thank goodness no one was injured. Good luck with the repairs.

Sorry to hear that - and glad no one was hurt etc.

One question though -will your insurance company replace the bumper for a standard item or the facelift type?

Will

A mate of mine had a saxo which was aftermarket bodykitted like a westcoast/vts/vtr. His car was white, but after a bump a load of paint fell off it and all the parts were different colours! The bodyshop put a brand new oem bodykit on it, all authorised by the insurance company, finished job looked great.

There is a good chance they will replace broken bits with identical brand new items.

I never declared about the facelift bumper though, wouldnt MB just go on the chassis number if I repaire it?

If the bodyshop have any brains at all they will work out it's been facelifted and repair/replace as appropriate.

As for insurance... What happens is the bodyshop quote for the job and the insurance company either accept it or refuse it. The difference in price between facelift and pre-facelift parts is negligable anyway, the main cost will probably be the labour, which is the same whichever parts get fitted.

Sorry to hear about the damage, at least you (although not your insurance) is unharmed. :(

Good luck with the repairs, and it might be worth having a friendly word with the body shop about the parts? :)

Cheers

Sparky.

sad to hear about the car mate... just to think i was going to take those bumpers off shude until i got silver ones....!

i think the pre-facelift bumpers are actually MORE expensive then the facelift ones, so in actual fact you might well find the insurance are happier to replace with the facelift ones...... just boot your rear one in aswell now....!! might aswell have the set!!

Well today I removed the front bumper to see what the damage really is.

To the chassis, there is only a tiny dent in the bumper support frame which I have managed to bent back to nearly good as new.

As for the bumper, apart from a small hole/gash in the front its 99% good as new. I had to bent the supporting pins back & I will have another go somtime.

So apart from a respray its all good :)
