another dodgy auction?

Very simply actually. It happens in the same way that people get duped into giving their bank details away because they fell for a scam email.

I get at least 5-10 per week saying something like "urgent security notice" or "URGENT SECURITY NOTIFICATION FOR ALL CLIENTS". The link will look like it comes from eBay . . . like this;

www.ebay.co.uk

but if you hover your mouse over it you'll see it goes to cnn not ebay. When you got to one of these sites that they link site, you re-enter your details and they have your account.

Phishing nowadays is moving a step up! e.g.
-emails "from ebay" asking to respond to a question
-emails "from paypal" stating a transaction you never made
-emails "from ebay" stating that items you are bidding on are about to end

They are getting smarter... As a general rule, don't click on any link "eBay sends" into your email. Acknowledge it, open a clean IE window and goto my ebay. From there, if you have messages you will see them :)

I got several incluuding my Paypal account has been suspended. Well Ermmm paypal is not with that mail address. Random buyer question please respond. The simple solution is to treat is as you would a bank. If when you log onto ebay there is a message it will be genuine. If checkeing your email and there is not the same message with Ebay be aware.

Dont be caught in. Some are very very convincing.

I tend to reply to those phising emails, "logging in" with user names like biggusdickus, etc, etc and some passwords which I won't repeat here.

Makes me chuckle to think of someone somewhere trying to login as biggusdickus.

Ckeck out fleabay`s feeback forum - there are loads of biggusdidkus`s out there.....

Also,is there any risk in having your bank/fleabay/paypal etc in your favourites list and going to the site from there?
Just wondering if there are ways of scammers swapping an authentic entry in your favourites list to one of their dodgy sites.......Paranoid now :eek:

No don't worry about that. If you are concerned, just look at your address bar in your browser before entering any info. It should be a valid address, for example;

http://my.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyeBay

If it looks somrthing like this;

http://123.45.678.90/ebay/confirm-details/ . . . . (not real)

Then leave . . . . NOW!!!!

Ebay and Paypal NEVER ask you to reconfirm details!!!! EVER!!!!!!!!
