I quite like those Didn't they have a prototype one for evaluation when these were in production, where they used two of the 700cc cylinder blocks to make a 1400cc V6, with 200 bhp? What a shame they decided not to go ahead with it

Smart Roadster-Coupé Brabus

I’m more than a bit gutted to be honest. I’ve been waiting for many years for a very low mileage example with perfect history to come on the market - ideally with glass rear canopy (Coupe) - and this one came on the market on Monday morning before last.

I was on holiday and Mrs D kept badgering me to phone or I’d regret it, and I dragged my feet thinking that there wouldn’t be a clamour. I called at lunchtime and 5 minutes prior the seller had promised to hold it it until the evening. I was plan B.

It was advertised for £10,750. Even though I really want it - it would be the perfect companion for my Mercedes-AMG ForFour Black Series Night Edition Premium Plus 125 Navi powered by Brabus - but psychologically I won’t pay the mark up.

A big part of my reluctance to phone straight away was because only the night before Mrs D had started to come round to another possible purchase and I was trying to test to make sure that she’d approve both cars. I think she would have too.

Not meant to be.

Brabus built ten and if I remember right they cost around £3m in total. They weren’t destined for the open market but who knows whether one or two may have made it into private hands.
