Smart Roadster Brabus Xclusive

My previous one was my daily for a year so parked outside all the time and driven to work etc through whatever weather, (dont think it snowed during that time) but I sold that one when the company bought me an EV. Certainly had to defrost the screen a few times and wait for the rear screens to clear (both mine were coupes with the glass tailgates and side windows

I actually bought the current one first, but as an unfinished project, when I realised the scale of work still needed I bought a cheap one to see how I got on with them

You did well to get both soft and hard top, my understanding is most came with one of the other, the best you could hope for with a soft top was the fittings for hard top being there too. Hardtops sell for ridiculous money, so any cheap smart with one likely to be broken😢
I didn’t realise that they couldn’t all accept the hard top - I had assumed it was just an option or accessory.

You can’t really feel the heater in Summer when the roof is open, so in Winter it will be far from ideal. I can already tell that it will be the worst car I have for top-down Winter driving - both due to the air coming into the cabin and lack of grip/traction in snow, ice and slippery conditions.
Smarts on winter tyres are surprisingly competent on snow. En-route to the photos below, the road was officially closed due to heavy snowfall.

Pretty sure Boxsters are the same, not every one has the fitting kit

In reply to your other post, you need to get your heating looked at, mine got plenty warm enough in winter, the air con once rebased kept it plenty cool enough in summer

The air coming out of the vents is as hot as any other car, it’s the movement of cold air entering the cabin which I’m expecting will be the challenge in winter.

Did you raise the suspension, it looks like a beast!?
That's at standard height - which I had to run when I needed clearance for fitting snow chains. Once I 'discovered' winter tyres I lowered it as I never had to fit the chains again. Even lowered it was highly capable on snow.
TC and ESP help in winter and, a Trust Plug will disable both - if/when required. Without TC/ESP and on summer tyres, I spun mine 450 degrees on a road barely wider than the smarts length. Still don't know how I got away with that one.

I bet your eyes were wide open after that!

It Was Summer today, so I took the Smart Roadster to work to enjoy some spirited driving in the wonderful blue skies and warm sunshine.

On the dual carriageway I was just-about dusted by a very committed professional racing driver in an Aston Martin Valkyrie. He just had the edge.

OK so it was actually primary school teacher in her late 30s driving a Kia Carens people carrier, oblivious to me giving it most of the beans.

Aye, but the teacher was thinking about her impending holiday,

while you were enjoying a summer drive.

It will be like the Ioniq 5, so perfectly proportioned it’s not obvious it’s twice the size you think it is unless you see it with something nearby to provide perspective. Where it would be nice if this was same size as the original Roadster, it’s more like to have the footprint of a 992 🫣

The Callum Sky is like a jacked up Smart Roadster Coupe with electric powertrain. Even Ian Callum agreed after he stopped laughing!

Made some phone calls today. It seems that Mercedes has released a huge recall so getting through on the phone was a nightmare, and unfortunately online quotes don’t work for Smart.

The variation in price is quite significant, and some of the call agents hadn’t got a clue - I had to guide them through - I felt sorry for them, although I guess most customers don’t have a clue either.

Booked in for a B-service, air filter, combi filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, brake fluid, and coolant which I believe is every additional item. Explaining that I wanted items not yet due was a challenge too!

I tried an independent specialist which was much less expensive than two of the main dealers I called but not much less expensive than my preferred dealer, and they’ll give me a a courtesy car.

Booked in for an MOT too at my usual MOT station. Again it’s not yet due but I want to make sure everything is spot on. I make being over the top looking like not caring when it comes to this! 😁
More than 2 months later the service still hasn’t been done. What’s irritating is that it’s only because I phone to check whether parts have arrived the night before that I find out that they haven’t and that i/t’s cancelled. My Mercedes dealer is as bad.

It’s the fuel filter that they’re waiting for, and could be NLA. Smart’s alternative suggestion is to fit a new tank including the fuel filter, as the dealer won’t fit non-original parts. It’s scheduled for replacement every 4 years!

So today I have booked it in with a Smart specialist for the same full monty service, plus even more (as the Smart main dealer don’t service the transmission, but the specialist does:
  • C-service
  • Air filter
  • Fuel filter
  • Spark plug
  • Brake fluid
  • Coolant
  • Transmission fluid
  • Aircon re-gas
  • Poly V belt
Once that’s done I’ll take it to the Smart main dealer for a basic A service with no additional items, so I maintain the fully stamped Mercedes/Smart main dealer history.

I’m making it even more perfect so I can charge @MikeInWimbledon even more when he buys it from me 😀

Very common for the aircon pipe to break so if it needs a re-gas i would say the pipe has cracked. There's a moddified part to fit that cures it.

My experience now is that Merc delerships have no idea about servicing the Roadster so your specialist stamp is more important. I know why youu would want a merc stamp but anyone who would be interested in buying later wouldnt care about it.

I know you've been flirting with the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart as well....
