Hi guys, I know you may have seen a lot of these, but heres another one... I have a E220 CDI (W210) and intermitently I have a power loss.
At times when I start the car it has power for a long time and then stops reving over 3000, and at times when I start it right away I am not able to go over 3000RPM.
I have changed the MAF and had no luck, car still runs smooth as anything... Just no overtaking tractors on the A roads :( LOL

Someone point me in the right direction...

It could be the turbo is jammed so the ECU goes into limp home and wont allow full power to be produced.
You need the codes read.

Hmm, could be, does a jammed turbo mean I need a new one? Will a jammed turbo show on a code read?

It'll register either under or overboost.

good stuff, off to germany on monday for a week, so will get it done when I get back... :)

Hi guys, I have found out that it isnt the Turbo that is getting jammed as I can hear it whistling... Any other ideas?

Doesn't mean a thing, could still be underperforming.

As Dieselman said you need a Star check done as it could be anything.

Im dreading it being a Turbo, but I guess if its gota be done its gota be...

It could be the resonance flaps in the inlet manifold. If they jam it starves the engine of air even with the turbo blowing.

Right... heres the latest, went into a MB specialist today and the Star machine has diagnosed the car to have a loss of air pressure, so its not a MAFF or anything, now he has said that they will now have to further investigate what it may be and this is obviously chargable at £50 per/hr. Any ideas of where it may be leaking from before I start paying them money?

On my W203 C220CDi I had much the same thing happen twice, first time it was a turbo hose with a split, this made an odd noise until it got worse, the hole should be ovious, the second time it was the intercooler that burst, and you could hear it leak as the turbo spooled up, I guess it could also be the EGR valve sticking too..... good luck in finding the problem

Have just realised something new, with the bonnet open if I rev the engine to about 3500 RPM then let go I can hear a loud hiss for about 5 seconds after the engine has returned to idle, is this the turbo, is this normal? Is this maybe telling us something?
