Ordered yet another refurbed steering wheel from ROYAL steering wheels. Superbly crafted with great attention to detail.

The steering wheel is probably the most tactile part, almost makes it feel like a new car when you hold it!

I usually get them to send and have my local garage fit, but as I was going to Lightwater to get my Smart-Top fitted by Comand it wasn't much effort for the SLK55 to stretch its legs to Aylesbury where I met Raj and Alex who fitted the wheel for me.

Probably partly due to some heavy traffic but I wasn't expecting to see 35mpg from the 5.5L V8!...

Very smart...care to share a rough idea of the cost?

Very tidy as always. 👌

I’ve used RSW’s on my last 6 vehicles. Always great service and communication from start to finish.

Might have our car done this summer.
As a matter of interest, how have you done it previously?; sent your original for rework or had them make up a replacement to swap?

First one I sent mine off for a week and left the car sat in the garage. (Purely because I was apprehensive of swapping over all the buttons)

But all the ones after was an exchange. Swapping over the buttons takes a few minutes. ✅

The only thing that makes me a tad nervous is dealing with the airbag.

Really? What are your concerns?

💥 💨💨💨💨💨

Tbh I was the same the first time I removed a wheel. Handled the airbag like an apprentice bomb disposal expert. But the more ya do the less it bothers you. Disconnect the battery, wait 10 minutes, then remove airbag.

Thinking of refurbing the BM or Seat wheel (or both)?

Beemer. It's one of the few things that let the car down a tad. The leather BMW use is a bit low rent and is showing wear in all the usual places. It's interesting that the wheel on the SEAT is in much better nick, despite mainly being driven by Mrs S with her long talons and diamond-encrusted bling. ;)
The wheel looks easy enough to actually dismantle according to a vid by some bloke on YouTube, it's just the airbaggery was a bit outside my comfort zone. Says the bloke quite happy to build a 160V DC power supply out of a toroid, rectifier and mahoosive capacitor.

You’ll be fine with the airbag. Just close your eyes. 😁😁😁

The offending article: not terrible, but could be better
RSW quote form duly filled out and sent off 👍

Looks pretty good to me. Are you sure it doesn't just need a "wash and brush up?"

The photo flatters it unfortunately 😔
Have you tried a little Autoglym or "Furniture Clinic" leather cleaner ?

If not, it would be worth a weekend hour to see how much it could be brought up

Just a thought. Royal are excellent, but if your wheel is structurally good, it's worth a try.

Yep, tried leather cleaner. It cleaned it OK and removed whatever product had been previous applied to improve the look!
I also gave it a go with a refurb kit, which improved it, but still wasn't perfect ( and subsequent cleaning has degraded).
