Ladies / Gents..

My car has the original
Hirschmann Mast (04) model.

I had the motor replaced 2 years ago, and im thinking the mast might need to be replaced soon as i have noticed some tarnishing on the sides, which is causing some sticking (even after the lubrication).

But in the process of upgrading the mast, is there a way to make the signal that is received by my radio better?

The difference between my s class and w124 is quite large when i last listened to it, hence if there is a way to enhance the signal to my original stereo, then this might be a thought whilst i am in the mind set of tidying up the audio.

I dont want to change the head unit or anything else, just to enhance the signal by focusing on the aerial.

your thoughts would be appreciated!

I would replace the mast first as this is a dead simple job (and cheap). If the sections aren't clean & shiny they may not be making contact properly, which will affect the reception.

Incidentally, I wouldn't lubricate the mast at all as that will cause dust/dirt to stick to it. I just wipe mine down periodically with meths & kitchen towel and that keeps it spotless.
