Hi every one, Thinking of buying a 1999 E55 saloon . bean looking at this type of car for some time, at present I drive an S Class 4.3 V 8 which is a brilliant car and returns 28 MPG most of the time.

Any way what I would really like to know is what sort of MPG would I get from normal every day use of an E55, you see Auto Trader list 8.8 MPG:eek::eek: if its hammered or 17.8 MPG if its drove by my mum.:D

Can not believe these figures. Has any one got an idea what a car like E55 1999 will return in normal use.

Thanks in advance PS great site :bannana:

How old is your S class and do you need someone to buy it?

Hi Seamster15,

Nice, but a bit to high on miles for me. Got my eye on one in Irland seems to be in good condition

thanks anyway

I have owned two E55's and I average 21-22 mpg all the time, mixture of town and out of town driving. I have managed to squeeze 29 on a long run. Anyone who tells you they are gas guzzlers are talking out their behinds. The engines are very efficient.:)

I would say this is dependent on driving style. I have gotten 28mpg on a long run in my old W210 E55. But around town about 15mpg.

Yeah of course if you have lead in your right foot then expect 16-17 but as an average I always get 21-22 :)

My e430 same basic engine, work and back 21/22 did over 1500 miles in france recently 27.5 mpg and best ever was 31.5mpg.

Aim at low 20s and you wont be far out:).

My Volvo V70 2.4 only does 21 and a max of 27 on a run, so and E55 looks good!

just over 30 mpg on a run driving 'sensibly', average on a run about 26-28 driving less sensibly and having some fun on the twisty bits. About 24-25 around town but 'town driving' down here doesn't involve sitting in traffic jams so that figure is probably artificially high.

No worries from me about the fuel economy

Now, take it out, give it a bit of welly, single figures are not out of reach :D

Id' agree with above, you can get 28-30mpg if you drive a steady 50-60mph on the motorway but if you start to cane it that drops fast, esp. if maintaining high speeds for a long time.

TBH, I don't notice a lot of difference between my old 2.4 V6 and the '55 in terms of around town economy.
