Any reasons not to buy a C220 sports coupe?

I'm about to make my first MB purchase and though it would be a good idea to check before finally taking the plunge.

I have pretty much decided on a 2008 C220 sports coupe (has some extras on it which I think are the evolution pack, drilled grill etc) and will be looking at a test drive tomorrow before I finally make me get my wallet out.

I will be buying from a MB dealer and was wondering if you guys had any thoughts on this car or what packages are worth getting (service plans etc)

As I’ve never brought a car from a dealer before I’m not really sure what to look out for (i.e. I know not to get extended warranties from curries when buying a TV but have no idea of things like this for cars etc)

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

If you buy make sure you get a large discount. The new version is about to hit the road and the value of old ones is sure to take a hit. Get them to extend the warranty by an extra year and get a couple of free services to sweeten any deal. This may seem optimistic but with the new model coming they will have to some good deals.

I looked at the E class coupe today and wad most impressed. The size suits me better than a E class saloon being based on a C chassis. Anyone any comments on the E coupe and which engine to go for?

As far as I know, there is only one major problem with the c-class coupe, which was the price. So if you really want one, haggle like a seriously haggly thing.

Surely that has to be the E350 CDi :D

You need a very serious discount if you are thinking of buying this car, as pointed out yes it a coupe but it's no sports car there are far better in this class, a huge discount or walk away would be my opinion.:)

Is this really relevant when the OP is considering a 3-year-old, pre-CLC model? Surely it will be priced at what the dealer considers its market value to be, and in any case the forthcoming C Class coupe is said to be a different type of beast altogether to the CL203.

Don't get me wrong, there's every reason to negotiate the best possible deal, but I think most of the above arguments would apply more when buying a run-out model new.

As MOCAŠ said, this should be really considered as any other second hand car.

The 2008 Sport Coupe is based on the W203, which, between 2005 and 2007, was a great car. Well built, rust-proof, and reliable.

True, not a sports car by any stretch of the imagination. But good solid car for the money.

Thanks for all the advice.

I agree its by no means a sports in the traditional sense of the word though (Sports means its got 'go faster stripes' these days more than anything mechanical).

The test drive was good so it looks like I'll be picking it up next week

As for the price I got what I paid for it :P,

The price had been dropped recently (I didn't see it before last weekend so I'm taking them at their word on this one) which I guess is due to the new one coming out. Although the old ‘how much for cash’ didn’t seem to have the same effect as it used to, I guess they make more if you take finance out with them, how things have changed.

All in all I’m happy with it for my first MB. Now hopefully it will stop my Dad trying to tell me how good they are (although I’m guessing now it will be about how much better built they were in his day, when he was a lad and all that)

I guess this means I'll be around here for a bit longer now ...

Good luck with your new car. Hope you test drove it over the type of roads you will normally be driving. Quite a few folks have found the unforgiving ride of these on the big wheels/ low profile tyres and sports suspension "tiresome" after a few thousand miles of ownership. For others its not an issue and they like the "point and shoot" feel of a taught sprung car. Let us know how you get on.

For me (good for mpg anyway) most of the milage will be duel carrigeways and motorways in rush hour.

The automatic alone should be a big bonus on the stop start parts where my current high ratio first gear normally means riding the clutch for a few miles.

Just got the long wait till next wed. now

Should have said my current car is/was a golf tdi gt. so it has a hi ratio first gear meaning on tickover its twice as fast as most cars in traffic. Probably my biggest most annoying gripe when it comes to sitting in traffic.
