Hi Folks,
As from the start of October I will be moving to Northern Ireland for a 9 month secondment from work, I will be staying in County fermanagh, Enniskillen I have never been to ireland, so just wanted to know if anybody who`s either from there or been there to share any experiences, good or indifferent. I know the trouble are over however is there still some element of unrest and what are the people like? just a general know how so i can embrace my change from Blackburn, Lancashire which is where I live?

Over to you !

Hi
You will be fine Enniskillen is lovely. On the shores of lough Erne. People are unique too. I am off there tomorrow (80 miles) from Belfast to get away from it all. You will enjoy your time. No unrest whatsoever! Head to the Manor House Hotel and rent a day boat, when you are finished have a bar meal in the hotel, chicken curry is greaaaaaaaaat.

I am jealous, i get to go to the Ukraine!! Wish i had to work there!!

good luck

My best friend has a farm just outside Enniskillen. Lovely part of the world, people are very friendly and it has a really old fashioned community spirit. As posted above can spend your weekends on the water and evenings in the pub for some craic.

Not too far from Dublin or Belfast but roads aren't great, still do-able in a couple of hours if you fancy some shopping etc. Troubles aren't an issue at all if your outside belfast.

Hope you like it

Sorry, but the troubles as you refer to them arent an issue anywhere in Ireland now, including Belfast. You are creating a picture that everywhere around the city is fine but in Belfast the troubles are somehow ignoring everything and continuing.

I cant sit back and ingnore silly, uneducated and blatently idiotic remarks to go by like that.

Anyone who has not been to Belfast should come over for a weekend, it is a fantastic place. There is so much history here and for sightseeing it is one of the best places in Europe.

I've had a couple of good nights out in Belfast when i was a removal lorry driver !!

They know how to party is all i'll say ;)

Apologies Ciaran, the last line in my post was not well written and certainly didn't mean to cause offence.

I can only write from own my personal experience witnessing a friend being severely assaulted on a night out in Belfast in what was definitely a sectarian attack. Colours my opinion im afraid.

HOWEVER, i realise these things can happen anywhere and again i was probably typing a bit quicker than my brain was working at the end of my last post.

You'll feel right at home in Enniskillen....its now full of English people. I walk up the street and am amazed at the numbers, but its a nice place and you will find it a real home from home.

Cheers

:)
