I'm still very happy with my TTG 700 so won't be changing it at all but the new range of TomToms, 510, 710 & 910, looks like major improvement. They all use the new sirfstar III chipset so should be able to lock onto a satellite behind a lead lined nuclear bunker (well almost).

The weirdest feature has to be TomTom buddies, where by if you know someone else with a new model and you set it up, you can follow their movements from your own unit. I think that had to be invented by a seriously twisted wife :p

Wife: Where are you?
Husband: Stuck in traffic.
Wife: No you're not, you're down the pub.

Ahh the old stereotypes. :D

Funnily enough, I was reading up on these last night, as being minus COMAND (or equivalent) I need to get a suitable gadget, and soon !

Was looking at the TomTom One, and seems more than adequate for the job .. for now, my need for European maps will be few and far between, so don't need one with them built in as standard.

The TomTom buddies thing ... hmmm.. not quite sure how that works - but obviously through the mobile phone link ... don't think it transmits satellite signals between units !!

Still undecided - but need one before next week, or some kind of solution - might just opt for a bluetooth gps receiver and tomtom for my XDA in the meantime ... just complicates things with making phone calls while navigating - so might need to re-think on that.

I find my 700 works great as a handsfree car kit, for answering and for making calls.

How do you make a call thru it?

I can understand answer .... does it work like a BT headset so u can use voicedialling ?

I haven't set it up to do voice dialling but I think it can do it. I just haven't worked out how to do it:o

But it's easy enough to make a call by tapping the screen a couple of times.:D

WHat I do love is that it will receive your texts for you if connected to the phone which is really cool and you can send texts too :D

We also used the major routes of Europe on our trip to France last week and it was OK - ish. She got confused in Paris and Limoges but otherwise did well. Didn't need the finer detail at all.:D BUt I think hubby is after buying that for our next trip:rolleyes: :D

You can import your phone's contact list into the Tomtom, so making a call is just a matter of tapping the person you want from your contacts list.

Or you could dial a number manually but that would be a bit dangerous to be honest and best avoided unless stationary in traffic.

Gotcha ... might be a short term solution then .. until MB release the Bluetooth UHI Cradle (and I manage to retrofit COMAND !)

Was looking at these myself last night as the Ipaq 6515 is on the way out and would like to stick to Tomtom. The advantage of the PDA based ones is the availability *ahem* of the software although I did purchase one atleast, the bluetooth receiver with TT4 - I found the integrated PDA GPS much easier to deal with although a bit slow.

The 910 looks great though I am not sure if I can justify the high price so will have to spend some more time reading up reviews and checking out ebay for maybe a older model. Though if the handsfree is good as mentioned above I might just go for one of them, gives me a reason to get rid of the 6310

With the new Tomtom range out, the older range are really going cheap...

Even ntl are now knocking out the TTG 700 for £320! I remember getting mine last year for £500 and being pleased becaise RRP was £550.

Bargain Bargain. The 500 is only £230 -

Got my TT 910 today from PCWorld. If you look carefully, they have a 10% off voucher in their current in-store catalog. Means that you can get the 910 for £449.

Haven't plugged it in yet. :-(

Let us know what you think (as if you won't!)... I've been using TT5 with my XDA Mini and a BT GPS receiver - was the cheapest way to get things up and running (!) - works well ... so would be interested to know how the 910 compares.

Well I can tell you that the new 910 is a step up from the previous models and then some. The included software now makes it a pleasure to attach to the pc, and it has the ability to check for updates with every dock.

The unit is smaller than I thought, and has a really nice screen. Hoping to try it out in the car today and see what else is improved.

holy moly , ill be getting a 910. Didnt realise it had Detailed maps of the whole of Western Europe, US and Canada on Hard Disk Drive !!!!

and all for only £500

I spent £500 alone on maps for my garmin unit never mind the whole kit and kaboodle.

Should be £449 from PCWorld, and possibly cheaper elsewhere. So don't pay £500.
