Anyone have a designo E55K W211?

The guy who bought my old E55K (Tektite Grey) might soon be selling it I understand - rare colour and moderately modified (sounds great).

I was tempted to buy it back but I've decided not to go back there again as I am very happy with my current steed.

That's on 110k now but I bet if you drove it, you wouldn't know it!

There are examples of these running to 200k/300k without issue.

It's been looked after really well by at least the last three owners and the car was well cared for before I ran it for 5.5 years.

Good provenance too as a lot of the life of it is documented on this forum under my username!MB.JPG

That really was a lovely colour John👍

130k isn’t much on these engines or drive trains. As long as it’s been maintained, go for it!

I recently drove an E55AMG, it belongs to someone I know. It has nearly 175k on the clock, apart from the rear suspension being quite bouncy, it drove very well. The power delivery is different from my S600, I think the e55 is more raw compared to the s600 but I like that.
It's a car i need to own at some point and if the right one comes up I would love to buy one.

Thank you John, do you know how much he'd like for it?
There's a grey/gold colour one I see every day on my way to work. Its slightly lowered and it has 19s or 20s AMG from the new S class W222 model. It looks so classy yet it stands out so much.

Remember you put a good sound system in it too. OP, it would be worth seeking John’s car out.

I do but it might be better if you PM him directly to have a discussion just in case things change.

It's not designo btw, just rare anyway.

I didn't actually - I just added a subwoofer. The standard system in it (not HK) was pretty good anyway I thought.

Looks high spec with heated and cooled front seats, and heated rear seats. It is a 53 which I believe is worth investigating (some are good , some are bad IIRC in terms of radiator and electrical updates?).

Seems an OK price, nothing special but reasonable.

If you really want a specific or rare colour you probably will always have to compromise somewhere I guess!

I sent a message to the seller and he said he still has it. For once i want to get a car that i can drive every time i get a chance and the E55AMG would be a great daily but i can't help thinking 130k is too much. Maybe i should just buy a silver one as i've seen some very low mileage ones. There's someone on You tube that has posted videos of his silver E55AMG and once it was all done, the car looked immaculate and even though silver is not my fav colour, it looked great and i thought i'd be happy with that!
Poor MOT history on that blue one - also a MB garage selling privately with no warranty from what I could see.
Unless you’re buying a low owner, low mileage E55K then I’d allow at least a grand maybe even two to get it to what I’d call top condition. There are forum members who have spent that amount and more, it really depends what type of E55K you want - a minter that barely turns a wheel or something really nice that will be *driven*?

I’d also say that these cars are getting into that sweet spot of “buy on condition, not mileage” and the Jasper Blue in the eBay looks a good base to start with, if I was looking I’d certainly be interested...

Helloooooooooo
so I was at the Tyre shop admiring my beautiful E55K and I wondered how many were in blue (I'd still like to know)
after trying to google it I found this forum thread and I had to sign up

I've bought that car!
so what wasn't in the description was that it was completely standard apart from an LSD
it had only one owner(ish) from new doing the first 128K miles who was a wealthy business owner with several cars, boats planes etc.
the second owner was the owner of a mercedes specialist garage in milton keynes, he owned about 8 cars, including a RHD clk55 convertible, a Ferrari 550 and a Detomaso Pantera, needless to say he lived in a nice house in a very nice part of the country
he only did 2k miles in a year with the car but had reciepts for lots of work done in that time.
this was the third car I had gone to see and I couldn't have hoped for a better ownership history

this is my 4th car, my first being an e46 330d touring and my last being a 1.6 diesel focus lol

so it doesn't have a panoramic roof or radar cruise control (maybe a retrofit project?)
but it does have heated and cooled dynamic front seats and heated rear seats.
I've taken it to two mechanics and a Mercedes dealer and they've all said it's in very good shape.
my main issue with it is the paintwork could be better, it's beautiful when waxed and cleaned but it could do with having the scratches fixed.

I had been looking for an E55 compulsively for about a year and I'm glad I got this one.
I ended up paying £7500 and I haven't had any issues in the past few thousand miles
I took it on the epic NC500 route in Scotland (highly reccomend)
and I'm planning to take it on a 3-4k mile trip around europe to visit the Mercedes museum(also highly reccomend), the autobahn and the Italian lakes.
sometimes I just look outside my window and gawk at it, I'm so lucky to have it (at 22) and it's beautiful.
most people don't know the significance of the car but I do get quite a few looks, not that I was looking for something flashy.
people in the know occasionally talk to me about the car and it's nice to finally feel part of the petrolheads club.
I love this car to bits, you guys know what the E55 is like so I don't need to tell you how great it is.
but this one is the best I've seen and never fallen into the wrong hands, I will cherish it.
I have many more pictures if you guys would like.

Isn't that what I forum is for? Keep posting on here please - a car like that at 22 and you'll have lots of fun too. It must be a keeper for sure. What is the annual insurance cost for you?

It’s as opposed to PM’ing him as the forum won’t allow that due to less than 30 posts :)

Thank you for the warm welcome guys✋

I live in a low crime area and I'm a student so I pay about £1100 a year including breakdown insurance, it would be about £1400 if I had a regular job.
I had to wait until I had my license long enough, it was about £5k minimum before I had my license 2 years.

before any of you get the wrong ideas, I bought the car using money from cryptocurrency investments. (google Chainlink)
for those interested :
it will do 28-30mpg if you are cruising at 70
19mpg on a long fun drive on A roads
15mpg if you're going for short blasts
and 12 if you are mad or do short journeys in town.
I was getting 21mpg in scotland easily even when driving at 6-7/10 all day, I was quite impressed.

my dad was pretty shocked when I bought it, he didn't know what it was.
the morning after he took it too the shops and floored it in the wet and it was spinning in second past 30mph lol
not to preach to the choir but, the E55 is a rare and underrated car imo.
you just can't beat the performance for the price
I overtook an '08 Nissan GTR at 20mph off a roundabout to :thumb:legal dual carriageway speeds, he tried to catch me but never could lol
more recently I kept up with an 18 plate RS6. that was a pretty special feeling.
I'm looking forward to taking it on the autobahn to really let it stretch its legs without feeling too guilty.
I thought that my first ~500hp car would be like a ford mustang (crowd killer)
but it's very easy to drive, it's enjoyable at any speed really.
the car makes me feel like special and like I've made it already, I've done 5k since getting it

I like to look at depreciated german cars like it's a fulltime job
alternatives I considered :
840ci = stunning design but poor parts availibility
RS6= too unreliable
E39 M5= too much for a good one
e46/e92 M3 = too common/ragged around and too much for a clean one.
640d = not a petrolhead car, new era BMW are ugly
S4/S6 =too complex
CL55= no rear leg room.
C55 estate = I don't like small cars and it gets more or less the same MPG as the e55k
I wanted an estate but they demand an extra £4k minimum which I would rather spend on a small car
I don't intend to modify it, I'd like to restore wheels and paint to new condition before considering a pulley and remap, it's fast as is and I like hearing the engine rev out without doing dangerous speeds.

I'm glad to join a community of likeminded enthusiasts, I've long wanted to go to a car show/meet so It would be cool if anyone could point me in the right direction to finding something like that I would appreciate it.
also I need to change out the rear pads, do people have any recommendation for brands?

Good to see its gone to a good home, the LSD is a nice bonus!

Insurance sounds reasonable, I've had mine since 21 so jumped through the same hoops! Not being a typical boy racer car definitely helps!

Economy is interesting, I don't think I've known anyone get 30mpg out if these, especially at 70! I've seen about 28 (indicated) max doing 60/65 for 100 miles.

I don't think these cars are particular easy to retrofit options and the parts cost would be horrendous! So I'd probably enjoy as is. I have the radar cruise and it works alright, but cars have come a long way since!

Your shortlist of cars was very similar to mine haha! Good taste!

I'd sign up to the official AMG private lounge forum too, there is a occasion meets which are quite nice.

Pads and discs a lot of people go OEM. Some Mercedes parts aren't that expensive or just are so much better. Find yourself a food local specialist who knows what they are doing regarding AMGs. There's a list on this forum of them.

Hi and weclcome,

a very nice car in a lovely colour. As said above, very expensive to add distronic. You could spend far less on a small remap and smaller s/c pulley 😃 though Mr Insurance man might not be too keen.

I always purchase parts at MB and have found them to be fairly priced. MB sell on fleabay too. Their parts do fit and come with warranty and a bit of paper to prove its the proper part, should you ever pass the car on.

Enjoy your 55.

Costs are not that bad for some retro fits.

I have fitted the following to my car:
  • Distronic
  • Garage door opener
  • Easy pack loading kit
  • Facelift wing mirrors

thats impressive. I would love to add distronic. Was it a straight forward install of parts? Dare I ask...

also, is it simple or programme the garage opener?

than you and sorry for the hi jack!

Vick

Hi all, new here. Yes really loving my mystic blue E55. Great seeing some beautiful cars on this forum
