Hi,

Have done a quick search. My 6233 on my comand, when I get an incoming call it shows the persons number not name. Even although they are stored in my phone book. Is this just simply due to my phone using the sim and phone memory? I take it it has to be one or the other? I cant check now as my wife has the car at work! Just wanted to confirm my findings!

not sure about comand, but i know that some systems will only show what is stored on the phone..

This appears to be a Series 40 phone. Then it probably can use both the SIM and the phone memory at the same time (while the "high end" S60 phones can't). The phone would not show the name if the same number is assigned for two different names (phone and/or SIM memory). In the past S40 phones allowed the exact same name and number on the SIM and on the phone and were still able to show the name, this appears to be too complicated for modern technology:rolleyes:

In addition the phone would not use all the digits to map names to numbers. Not sure about this phone but it probably uses the last 7 digits. In this case if you have "Wife with number 1231234567" and "Alice with number 1241234567", the phone would interpret the same number being assigned for two names, and would only show the number.

Usually easiest to see which name is confusing the phone if you delete your wifes entry from the phone book and see which name the phone shows then (if it still shows a number, it becomes more complicated because you would still have at least two names for one number).

Edited: I thought you were using the phone alone, Comand should have a similar implementation as the Nokia phone except that my Comand shows the first name when two "almost same" numbers appear with two different names.

Ah, a subject I can actually talk about with some authority.

Its true that the S40 number matching algorithm has a 7 digit accuracy (last 7 rather than first 7), with multiple identical matches based on that algorithm interpreted by the UI as a non-match (separate contacts with the same number may have different names, remember). More recent S40 models have the ability to "always" return a match in that scenario, albeit somewhat randomly, regardless how many identical number matches there are, although this is not a user setting, and can only be switched on or off at the factory.

The solution in this case would be to set the default phonebook memory to either Phone, or SIM, rather than "Phone and SIM", if the same contact exists in both phone and SIM memories.

Looked like a foreign number - long distance......................

Alice? Alice?
WHO THE F**K IS ALICE?

Is I think how the song goes...... or at least the singalong version

[going off at a tangent again I'm afraid]

How long do you let the phone ring for?

I have a 6233 and the HFP Bluetooth Puck. The first ring shows the number only, but from the second ring the name appears.

Which Puck are you using and do you have your phone set to use Phone Only, SIM Only or both for contacts?

Yes it works great.

It takes a couple of minutes after getting in the car. I'm really pleased with it.

Just found the solution to my problem of the Comand not displaying my text messages for those of you who are interested!

It stopped showing them as I had over 400 SMS in my inbox, so I guess there is a max the Comand can handle and then it just stops displaying them.

Hope it might be of help to others!

Terry.

I have found that only numbers stored in country format show up in COMAND. If there in international format they don't.
