I need to get some fresh number plates as mine are looking a bit well travelled

Anyone using, or got a view on, Hills Ultratek number plates?

They seem impressive, although I'm unclear about the retail price ?

Clarified this morning that you can only get Ultratek plates if you make the pilgrimage to Birmingham to get them made.

That rules them out for me. I'm unlikely to be in Birmingham with time on my hands any time soon.

But nice plates.

No one else could do it for you, they need all documents of ownership along with you drivers licence ,.I know we uesd to make them up for the new caravans after they are sold,, i did this at the dealership that i worked for .

The annoying thing is that these aren't much more expensive than the ordinary things I'll be getting from Halfords this afternoon.

They're £36 for a pair, which seems a bargain given the build method and quality.

Surely MB-dealer plates look slightly better than ones with Halfords on them - same sort of price? :)
I think the last plates I bought at the dealer were £10 each. Until recently my usual dealer charged £8 per plate.

I prefer them plain, and Halfords are an easy drop in for me.
MB Wandsworth is a pain to park, and their parts process is appallingly slow. "Pathetic" is the word that comes to mind.
Ascot is significantly better, but can't be bothered to go that far for something so bog standard.

That's what I thought at first glance, but you can't register online, you have to contact Customer Services to set up an account. Makes it sound like a trade thing to me rather than ordering ready made plates.

Yep, the online ordering process is for trade use - the likes of car dealers etc.

Private individuals have to rock up at the factory with proof of ID.

Nice looking quality plates, but not 200 mile round trip nice looking plates.

.

I wonder how they would cope with curved mounting? The letters appear to be stuck on as a giant sheet of sticky back plastic and then CNC'd out, leaving the rest to be peeled away.

I really like my plates - pressed metal, completely legal, and after over three years still look like new.

Don't remember the eBay seller's name (purchase history only goes back as far as 2018), but the manufacturer's code on the plates is "sat-pol" something.
... and it was about £20 for the pair ;)

I think you may be able to order the plates through one of their agents.

Sadly, not for the Ultratek plates, which are made at the factory.
The factory told me that the only way to order Ultratek is to turn up at the factory with ID.

Hills' agents, such as Halfords, use Hills technology and products to produce "normal" plates, but not the Ultratek product, which gives the appearance of being carved out of an aluminium sheet.
