It really is a make/model specific issue, and it’s true that many vehicles that theoretically are susceptible to issues experience none. However…For my bike I specifically asked the question on a US based BMW forum dedicated to my actual range and while there was a lot of theory about potential issues not a single person posted that E10 had actually caused problems that damaged the bike.
As a general principle, carburetted engines are most likely to have issues (with starting & slow-running until up to operating temperature in cold / damp conditions), and soldered carburettor floats are also a very real problem.
Stored vehicles can also experience issues due to water absorption / phase separation as previously mentioned, so take appropriate precautions if you’re going to lay up anything for more than a handful of weeks.
Bottom line is check the published manufacturer information first, then owner forums / clubs. Then if there’s still a doubt, avoid E10.
