Are members having issues in using E10 petrol

For my bike I specifically asked the question on a US based BMW forum dedicated to my actual range and while there was a lot of theory about potential issues not a single person posted that E10 had actually caused problems that damaged the bike.
It really is a make/model specific issue, and it’s true that many vehicles that theoretically are susceptible to issues experience none. However…

As a general principle, carburetted engines are most likely to have issues (with starting & slow-running until up to operating temperature in cold / damp conditions), and soldered carburettor floats are also a very real problem.

Stored vehicles can also experience issues due to water absorption / phase separation as previously mentioned, so take appropriate precautions if you’re going to lay up anything for more than a handful of weeks.

Bottom line is check the published manufacturer information first, then owner forums / clubs. Then if there’s still a doubt, avoid E10.

No problems with the 4-wheelers, but I mostly use E5 in the 3-wheeler, as it has a 1978 engine fed by twin carbs. It does little mileage, so the cost isn’t really an issue.

Oh, and I’ve drained the mower for the winter...

Hi, the electronic hand book in my car recommended says 99 octane to be used but 95 can be used at a last resort but reduce speed.

Where I live the E5 costs £1.65 litre

As far as I know all 97/98/99 Octane fuel in the UK is E5 (not E10). So you shouldn't have an issue because 95 Octane which is E10 is not recommended for your car anyway (other than in emergency, as you pointed-out). Your only option really is to keep buying high-Octane E5 fuel, which makes the question re the suitability of E10 fuel purely academic in your circumstances.

Hi , I only use E5 petrol in my car but are members having issues using E10 petrol
My new volvo xc40 obviously runs on it but time will tell. I'm convinced Boris is trying to wreck our cars early so we're all electric.

My R129 runs much better on premium so that’s all I use. I’ve tried it on E10 and I know they do say that you’ll notice a dip in economy but it just seems to guzzle the stuff, so I’d rather pay the extra for premium but go further on it

My 2019 car actually runs better on E10 than standard E5, smoother with more power like high octane fuel, but without the premium cost - weird.
MPG is maybe fractionally lower during cold pure urban trips.

There may be misinformation in the press that E10 freezes in fuel lines in sub zero temperatures due to ethanol attracting more water, but haven't seen any cars stranded or any evidence from European countries.

My 2021 XC40 has dropped from 32mpg to 26mpg. Good old Boris.

Presumably you should shut off the fuel while running, to make sure the carb is empty? I've got a petrol mower (4 stroke) plus a chainsaw and a brush cutter (2 stroke) ... I've not done anything special with those since switching to E10 and they seem OK so far.
